cropped images

well i might not explain this very well but you take a photo and you take part of the image and select that disregarding the rest normally done to aid composition of a shot.

Try to picture the photo you want in a composition, do this by holding you're hands together to form a box, Right hand in front of you palm facing you and thumb up,
Left hand above it palm facing away with thumb down.

Bring them together and you can crop with you're hands to see the best compasition....................sounds funny but quite easy..:D

Then get same compo through the lens.

An old guy I used to know, told me it would help (even if I didn`t have my camera, just for practice) to use an old slide mount, without the bit of film in, an just move it backwards and forwards until you got the desired effect, and it really does work. :)

Good one, but with the hands you can change format.:D:D:D:razz:

PX18 it is good practise and as said you can do it without a camera with you....

I use it to either correct composition, get rid of extra space or to fit a space.

If it's for composition, I generally crop at the same size of the original file, so it remains the same size and scale. I.E (reasonably extreme examples)

1/Original picture

2/Cropped to appear closer (still same dimensions as above)

3/To fit a space (still original width, but height has been changed)

Go play with Ashers......

Seriously, you're holding the camera see a potential shot so you put the camera down, hold your hands out to frame a possible shot and then go back to the camera and frame it again?

Sorry but that just sounds crazy to me. Looking through the camera just make more sense, if for no other reason than the "frame" isn't horrible OOF like your hands or empty slide mount would be.

I think what they're al trying to say Scaramanga is ........ that if you need to crop an imaged to get what you want (i.e. the final image) it would be better to try (if circumstances allow) to fill the viewfinder with that final image in the first place.

If you can't, then Mike Hoyer has given an excellent example above of cropping an image.

Using hands, slide frames or your vest & pants are simply tools to allow you to visualise/compose an image

Love, Dave B :)

100% crop means no re-sizing of the image takes place. The 100% refers to the zoom level in the editing s/w.
