Your rendition is not displaying the full potential of the RAW file:
• lack of micro contrast and sharpness
• improper DRL point setting
• incorrect WB
…and these tweaks were pro formed on a jpg! YOU CAN DO TONS BETTER WITH THE RAW FILE.

I know but i'm a novice and computer illiterate, i can only manage getting images to flickr, using their aviary for a wee edit and then posting on here or Facebook

Don't be discouraged!
Sure the image can be improved (not over-keen on the edit mind you) but you got it and it's quite well composed.
Editing is something you can learn when you have the facility available to you ... and I encourage you to start :)
 
I prefer your version to Kodiak's edit, which is over sharpened and lacks the warmth yours has.

That's a really great shot Tom, I personally much, much, prefer your presentation than Kodiak's. As Brash said it looks far more natural and pleasing to my eye.(y)
