D300 Problem

I have a d300 with MB-D10 battery pack. Was out shooting yesterday in Av when I noticed the aperture suddenly went to a triangle shape followed by F0 with a massive shutter speed - I think 1/5000. Also at the same time,in the viewfinder and in the LCD display the low battery strength warning came on even though both batteries were fully charged. When I took the pic, in playback mode the screen was black. The picture information showed F...
A while later the battery showed full again and things were normal. This is a recurring problem and is intermittent. Any ideas? merv:bang::bang:

I seem to remember something about some D300's having DBS (dead battery syndrome). It was rectified with a firmware update if I remember correctly.
Might be worth checking your firmware version. Also, do you have genuine Nikon batteries fitted to both?

This is known issue that Nikon solved a while ago with a firmware upgrade - its called DBS ("dead battery syndrome")

All Nikon bodies (and Fuji S5 Pro) from D200 up to D300 were affected.

I had this problem once, and after mugh googling got a tube of Deoxit, and have not had any issues since. Cleaned both body and lens contacts.

Thanks guys for such a quick reply. I was using the new 70-200 VR2 (Nikon) and the batteries are genuine Nikon. The link you sent me Desantnik describes exactly what is happening. Thank God I'm not on my own.
My camera was with Nikon about 6-9 months ago and the firmware version they claim to have updated is A - 1.02 and B - 1.00. Am I up to date. If so it sound like a 'clean the contacts' issue. thanks. merv:clap::clap:

Sounds like I'm behind Scott doesn't it. I suppose I can download them? Does the camera need to be connected to the computer? merv:bang:

You have all the info to hand Desantnik! Service not available at the moment - says to try again later. Thanks. merv:clap:

I can use google :D

Saw a thread on DP Review from a guy had no problems until he fitted the same lens as mine. He say is wobbles with slack. Mine also shows a small amount of movement whereas the 24-70 is rock solid. I wonder if this is lens problem due to poor electrical contact?merv:bang:

alot of sigma lenses have some play.

could be, but all my lenses are not exactly rock solid - thats the Nikon F mount for you.

Just a quick thought. My mates did it a few times and eventually the lens focus failed completely. Had to have the lens sorted by Nikon. Seem to remember a printed cicuit board was at fault on his. £300ish to sort.
Might not be that though.. :D
