Trying to get my head round this newly purchased D300.
I have set up as follows, Raw + Fine(jpg), when loading the images on the PC i have two jpgs of the same image and no raw showing.

I just cannot find anything in the manual to set it so i only get 1 raw 1 jpg.

Also, On my D80 i plug my usb in and switch on, it comes up as open in folder.
With the D300 i comes up as various Microsoft options, i like the idea of opening up in folder, but not sure how one does..

any ideas of set up would be gratefull.

What software are you using to transfer the D300 files to your computer?

Hi.

With my D80 which i was hoping to do with the d300, was to open the images up via the usb from the camera, cut and paste them into a folder, then open them up photoshop cs2.

But as far when opening the camera up on the PC via the usb i see no raws on the camera just jpgs.

Just wanted to add, maybe the quickest and freeist way to view your RAW files is to download GIMP free photo editing software and search on the net for UFraw free plug in.
You might want to purchase Photoshop because the NEF editing software that comes with the D300 is very basic but the uploading - Nikon Transfer is quite good.

I can open the raw if the camera is set to raw, but if its set to raw + fine, its just the jpgs that show and two of each...

Have you tried restting the camera by switching it on and pressing the qual button with the green dot and the +/- button with the green dot at the same time. this resets the camera to almost factory default but not quite.

What do you get with RAW and NORM, or RAW and BASIC ?

I have Microsoft RAW image viewer which saves having to go into an editing suite to look at RAW photos

This is a problem with your transfer software, not the D300.

Just use a card reader as a "Mass Storage" device to copy the shots off.

Agree with PD. I always use a card reader so I don't drain the camera battery, they are cheap enough to buy.

I am going to reset the camera, as this was second hand with only a few shots taken on it, I feel its better to start from the default settings...
Thanks..

THAT'S IT, exactly what i was looking for. Thank you kindly for the help....

use Nikon Transfer (for now) free download from Nikon - now do you see the RAW files - remember - every RAW file has a jpeg embedded in it.

Uou may also need to download the latest version of ACR that CS2 supports from adobe.com

Hi.

The raws are there I can open the them with Photomatix. but i was to understand that CS2 dont support a plugin for the D300... Do you have a link please.

Assuming you're using windows, have you got the box unchecked that says "Hide extension for known file types" in the folder view preferences?

"filename.jpg" and "filename.raw" will both show up simply as "filename" side-by-side, and if windows is able to show the embedded thumbnails in the explorer view, you'll not really be able to tell much difference between the two. :)

This could be why you think you've got 2 copies of the jpg. Bear in mind that windows won't let you have 2 files with the same name in the same folder, so they can't both be the same. :)
