D300s and remotes

Does anyone use a D300 or D300s with a remote, i have just bought a 300s and a non nikon remote. When i plug in the 10 pin socket i can not access any information via the LCD screen, this means the info button doesnt work nor can i chimp my images after i have taken them. Is this normal for remote use, if it is i cant beleive i would have to detach the remote after every use just to check images?

No, I have a phottix one and one that I bought off Flashybabes,never had a problem with either on the D200 or D300........:shrug:

this one i have is a photix, would there be any settings on the camera that would prevent this. any ideas would it be a fault with camera or remote before i take them back to the shop?

i use a yougno ebay £7 works a treat on the d300, d300s and d700

Not sure, but I know they work with the older camera, just wondering if Nikon may have changed something. Fwiw most (but not all) Phottix products are rebranded YongNuo ones.

ok cheers guys, at least i know it should work so now i can nip back to the shop tomorrow with confidence and sort it out.
