d300s bent pins compact flash

It'll have been bent when you put a card into it, either a dodgy card, or not inserting it correctly (I did similar, luckily, on a card reader that cost me £6, rather than a camera itself!)

You don't really have a choice but to send it back to Nikon for repair, and it'll probably cost in the region of £2-300 I'm afraid.

EDIT: My original estimate may have been high, others have suggested between £100-150

i think i have bent one of the pins on the conncetor inside the camera

nikon say it is not under warrenty , anyone else had this problem

Cheers Steve

There was another bent pin thread for a D300 recently.

This can only be caused by the end user, so its not a warranty issue, as it didn't ship with bent pins.

Workaround I guess is to use an SD card for the time being?

Think there was also a parts issue causing long delays for this repair :(

If you're feeling brave you could use tweezers or some other thin object to try and unbend the pin. How did you manage that though? I always push my CF card in slowly to avoid this, as my camera does NOT have a SD slot, so I'd be well and truly buggered..

I did the same thing on my old 10D by putting the card in the wrong way but managed to straighten it using a pair of long thin tweezers.
Before you send it off to Nikon try a quote from Lehmanns they are based in Stoke (not far from Manchester) and 10 minutes walk from Stoke station. They are very good where cameras are concerned.

hope this helps

Unfortunately a warranty is not there to cover accidents. Insurance does that, which you could of course look into.

i am covered for acidental damage , on my house insureance

Then put in a claim with your home insurance, although the deductable may well cost more than simply paying to have your mistake repaired.

i am covered under acidental damage on my insurance

it will cost me £50 excess , i have benn luckly this has not happened int he past

the cost is some were between 70 - 200 from nikon

Thanks for the help

Steve don't be put off with a Nikon repair. :)
I have just had my D700 returned and this is the invoice.
Fit new spare parts.
Repair/replace printed circuit board & adjust as necessary.
Firmware upgrade to the latest version.
Check/adjust body depth and mirrors to standard.
Check and test AF accuracy metering, exposure adjust to Nikon standard.
Check, test and clean equipment.
This job may be re-estimated if further faults are found during repair.
Total including freight £39.33

My pins got bent because of a faulty SanDisk (Nikon recommend).
SanDisk lifetime guarantee didn't want to know because I can still use it in a card slot on my PC.
I now only use Lexar pro cards, good tip I picked up on here from Woodsy  (photographer of the year) leave your card in the camera and use Nikon transfer. Not much help if you are on a shoot and have to use more than one card but for the odd few shots it's ace.

i have some shoots to do until 1st aug , then i have till the 27th to get it sorted.

i`m luck i can still use sd cards till i can get it to them for repair

i hope this is enough time for them to sort it for me

cheers Steve

They shut down for the whole of August for their hols :lol::lol: joke.
They turned mine around within two weeks.

We used to straighten bent pins on computers, laptops and card readers regularly using a thin screwdriver.

Even straightened dozens of pins on a CPU once without issue.

i got some good advice , when it get it fixed i will just get a
big compact flash and leave it in , and use usb to transfer th images off it.

the pin is completely bent , im just going to take it to a shop which will take about a week for the repair approx £140 .

Thanks for everyone help and advice

Cheers Steve

Yup been there, if they are bent at all just repair it. It stung me around £129 if memory serves when my fiance tried putting my CF card in for me on my ole D300 but they did a good job in the repair (still I traded it back to Nikon) .
To be fair I can understand why Steve is annoyed at Nikon, as the pins bend very easily and this repair is allegedly very common.

I'm with Nikon on this one, I don't want to upset anyone but I've owned a number of camea's with CF cards and not bent any pins yet.

I've also used about 8 different manufacturers of CF cards and none have bent pins if put in the camera's carefully.

It's like saying to a new car dealer, I crashed my car will you fix it for free. I'm sure I know te answer I'd get.

i had a d70s for 4-5 years and never damaged the compact flash connector,
i just wish that they would sort it the fist time if the camera was under warrenty, its only 4 months old, I quite agree that if i had done it repeatily that nikon would be quite right to say its not covered. or it was an optional addon i chose to purchase , but it was the reason i bourght the camera in the first place , simply because i never had a problem with compact flash before.

maybe nikon should issue a once only voucher that was valid for the warrenty and any parts that are prt of the camera build for such an Event happening

Cheers Steve

when i tried to streihgten a pin on a laptop i managed to break it, i have a 2 week slot to get it fixed . so i would rahther pay someone to it whilst the rest of the camera is still under gaurentee.

Cheers Steve
