Picked it up yesterday. Wow, its just what I had hoped the D60 would be - almost fool proof. I was always slightly dissapointed with my D60, I always had to underexpose to avoid burn out, even in relatively flat light, it seemed to have very limited dynamic range. The Pictures from the D3100 are very different, very punchy, sharp, colourful, and attractive on the default setting. The low light performance is staggering, and the face tracking auto focus looks like it will be very useful to. Not tried the HD video yet.

The only disappointment so far is that iphoto does not recognise the RAW format.

Pleased you like the D3100, it has a very impressive spec for the price. I thought Nikon bundled some software (NX2) with the D3100 for RAW?

I still use my D3000 on occasions when a light easy to carry DSLR is called for and it produces some superb results too. I've not found lack of bracketing or inbuilt focus motor to be a big deal either.

Can I ask where you got your D3100 from?

I got it from Jessops, they are selling it for a great price, just don't buy your memory cards or UV filters from them.

On the RAW front, not unpacked the software yet, but iphoto recognised the D60 RAW straightaway

Get aperture 3 for your mac it's a world better for your photos and it's better than the Nikon NX2 software IMO.
