D70 to D70S update

My question is so basic I thought I'd better put it here rather than in Talk Equipment so here goes.

Various reviews say the D70S has better metering, focussing and menu displays than the D70. Apart from the cable release socket, will a software update to the D70 give all the other improvements? If not, what will be missing?

I cannot personally vouch for it, but I have read that the firmware update brings the D70 almost up to D70s standard.

That is what I thought as well, I have two D70 bodys, and both are still well used, one is a dedicated IR camera and the other one is used for caving, so it gets well abused with mud and water but still keeps going.

IIRC, the other major difference between the D70 and the D70s is the screen size and the firmware update can't change that!

That's pretty much it, the upgrade is worth it for the later-style menus alone though
