D700 auto-focus assist light

I've just noticed my little auto-focus assist light seems to have stopped working on my D700. Not too big a problem as I usually keep it turned off, but does anyone know whether there is an easy way to get it fixed without sending it off to Nikon to be repaired? Many thanks.

You are probably in AF-C mode (look at the switch by the lens mount)

Assist light only works in AF-S mode.

I think it only works when the centre focus point is selected if on single point AF.

Could be turned off in the Custom Settings menu.

yes it has to be central

i spent ages thinking mine was broken as well when it was of centre

I thought the focus beep had broken on my D90, then I realised it was on continuous focus!
