D700 quick first impression

Yep, it sees the JPEG Ok Ade because the picture information is embedded in the JPEG at capture. But it has no effect at all shooting in RAW, the picture styles don't show in a RAW file. :)

Sorry I think I must have misunderstood the point being made Alison.I thought Yvonne was saying that if you convert a Raw to B&W in camera, then bridge does not recognise the resulting jpeg image. It does, but i`m probably confused.........:puke:

Cheers for the tip Alex ... :)

jpeg has the picture styles applied whereas only the nikon software will read the sidecar files with the nikon presets

lightroom will just treat it as a basic raw with no processing which is why it'll sometimes change from looking good to looking pap when it's been through the import to full render in lr

hope that's of some help

Pah, wake up man! No, bridge/LR etc don't see stuff like the B&W option if you shoot in RAW, but I still like to use the picture control occasionally whilst raw shooting, because the effect it has on the embedded jpg that then shows on the LCD can give you a good idea of what you can get from processing later. Both programs should 'see' it all fine if you have shot in jpg or converted in camera of course. ;)

oh this might be teaching people how to suck eggs (mainly for the new converts) but if anyone is using LR to import their images be aware that capture/view nx generates sharper images from the raw files for critical stuff

granted lightroom isn't pap and i use it more often because it's just generally easier but the nikon software even though it has a turd gui is quite good at rendering :)

I read this a while ago, so tried it and was quite surprised at the difference. I still only use it when it's a real peachy job, and that extra edge is really necessary. As you pointed out it's not the most easy software in the world, compared to LR.

Ah,OK, i`m outta here..............:bonk:

Must be that silly southern accent you have.......;)

lol @ Yv.

I'm from Glasgow so let's not talk about accents before I go all "Rab C" on you all ;)

Have a little look at Yerbury Confidential or Trevor Yerbury. (It's NSFW so I won't post the link since I'm AT work!) That's the combination Trevor shoots with, he only uses one camera and one lens.......and that's it!

Thats just camera porn, plain and simple :bonk:

Complete with nasty little strap on plastic thingy (aka a grip!)

AArrrrrrrghhhhhhhh!:runaway:

That's REALLY not helping Mark!

I'm supposed to be paying the money I'm getting for my Canon gear back into the bank, not making a dash for the nearest retailer with one in stock...................................mind you there IS always Focus :help:

I love my D700 too. Wish the control knobs worked the other way around though. I always increase when I want to decrease and vice-versa.

Maybe it's a setting somewhere...

Yep, you can do it!

Custom/controls/reverse.

Works a treat too ;)

Took delivery of new 14-24mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.8 Nikkor lenses this afternoon and a MBD 10 grip :love::love: to go with my D700 bought last week.

Got in, Sigma 50mm 1.4 (mahoosive lens), arranged the boxes in a cute menage a trois, grabbed a few shots, then threw the 14-24 on a took some crazy pictures of my lounge which the lens pretty much fitted right in ...

... I then proceeded to turn the camera on and reformat the card before downloading them to show you lovely people :bang: :bonk: :bang: :dummy: ...

... Methinks I could be a bit too excited. Anyway, I throw a fe pics up ver the next few days !!!

Yayyyyy :D:D:D

Does a happy dance.

It's FANTASIC isn't it? I seriously need to get the 14-24 on and have some fun.

You got a grip too! Now that's just showing off! ;)

Have fun and hope you can sleep!

The 14-24 is just crackers, Hopefully going to get out somewhere for a wander tomorrow and Sunday.

And you were right, the 24-70 is a bit of an animal.

Both lovely big lumps of glass ... I can't wait !!!

Am liking the lens reviews, giving uncle Ken Rockwell a run for his money:-

14-24mm is just crackers
24-70mm it's a bit of an animal.

Love it!(y)

ooooh yes of course Ryan delighted to (goes off to fiind out how to do it!) :)

Ah ha! Figured it out and duly completed ;)

I've taken the plunge and booked a pretty full on days training with the wonderful Yerbury's in March so I had better get some serious practice in. :)

It's boudoir so who wants to get their kit off? lol ;)

To be serious for a moment Trevor only ever shoots on a D700 with one lens, yep 85mm.................drat, I can see the bank balance going again! :)

 Boudoir eh?! Could be good for showing off your new 85mm Ali....

:naughty:

Why wait for a new one - assuming one is coming. The current one is a diamond (y)
