D7000 battery grip

I'm using a mieke grip on my Sony a850. Construction-wise it's a bit flimsy (ie it probably won't last as long as a Sony one) but for £60, including 2 3rd party batteries, I really can't fault it.
 
thanks guys, it's alot cheaper than the Nikon version makes you wonder why nikon charge so much!!! i'll send the person an email to make sure it's a meike
 
i ordered that exact one from the same seller on wednesday night, it arrived today. i'm just waiting to get home to test it out!

There's usually a very good reason why copycat items are a fraction of the price of the real deal. i had a load of Meike TTL cords, they all ended up in the bin.......
 
all in all not bad! arrow buttons are perhaps abit flimsy, but shutter has a nice feel to it. i'd argue the rubber was grippier than nikons too. the selector wheels are back to front from the camera though, so to up the aperture on the camera it wheels to the right, whereas on the grip it wheels to the left :lol:

looks wise its pretty well suited, rubber looks like the same pattern, as does the speckles on the body :)

i'm happy with it, especially with the extra money in my back pocket against a nikon one :)

Mine has arrived today and first impressions are good.

Has a nice feel and weight to it with some AA batteries in, works just fine with the D7000 so Im a happy customer.
 
You guys just tempted me. I've just ordered a grip for my D300 from Link Delight.
 
I ordered one on Sunday night and it arrived this morning. Very impressive given that it was a bank holiday weekend. It is a Meike branding item with a nice feel to it and after a first play seems well worth the money. Need one for my D80 now.
 
Question, compared to an official Nikon one at about £140 would you still think these are good enough, flimsy controls, back to front control wheels, to warrant not getting the Nikon?

Yes, and who says theyre flimsy, mine is every bit as good as the official Nikon one.

ROFL I should have known at my age that honesty gets me in trouble....

Guess I should just get the £40 one, any mods to swap the command dials?
 
perhaps there aren't any mods to make it the dials go the other way, but there is an option to reverse the on-camera dials to make it universal that way :lol:

forgive me for being alittle bit sceptical about "genuine" nikon ones on ebay from the far east for £140, even if they turn out to be real, are they honestly worth 3.5 times the price? to me, they aren't which is why i went with a meike. its up to you whether you want to spend more, its your money at the end of the day :)
 
Quick question
will the stock battery for a D7000 last the whole day if you are out for say a day trip and take ~300 pictures???............if not I guess I need one of these ectra battery's
 
Hey I used a new D7000 with battery for over 500 shots at a wedding yesterday and the battery indicator on the top display screen showed batt full still!

That's the way to go,
if I find that the stock battery is not enough then I will bay a second battery and put that wee didi thing in my pocket (better still wife's handbag) as a back up..................to hell with adding an extra 2 1/2 lbs of battery to an already heavy set up :):)
 
I think you misunderstand what this is for. Sure there is the extra battery, but now try and imagine portrait use of the camera for a prolonged period of time.

Sorry what a wally I am.........when you said Portrait I thought you meant portrait pictures not the way you hold the camera (Portrait meaning 90 deg) Ok I got it now, let me mess with that when I get home and I will see how I get on "Thanks"

That's ok, portrait mode of the camera is named like that because it is most used taking portrait shots :D

One more question about these mieke ones, are they plastic or magnesium alloy?
 
Mine just arrived, had a play with it and very impressed, does feel plasticy but can't say i am really noticing it. Don't know what you guys are on about with the dials being the wrong way round though, mine aren't thumb dial does shutter finger dial does aperture?
 
I went for an official, albeit grey import, MB-D11 one. The magnesium alloy build quality, proper thumb dials (although DannyDMR now reports they are fine), and the fact I use it with a black rapid and thus hang my body from the tripod socket made me spend a little more...
 
the dials are physically the right way round, you just turn them the opposite ways to the camera. if that makes sense :bonk:
