Hi Guys,

Just brought a d800 and now my 70-200mm f2.8 seems a lot heavier! lol (went from d90 to d800).

I'm looking for a good strap but want to make sure my investment is safe, I like the black rapid range but not sure on what is required to add additional safety measures as they seem to name theyre products in such a strange way??

I use a black rapid RS7, dont need anything else unless you want to use a quick release plate. mat be worth buying an extra fastenr(fry) to leave on the 70-200 so you can just unclip instead of unscrewing the fastenr.

Im sure theres another strap that attaches another point through the standard sling look point as well as via the bottom. It may be the optech but cant be sure.
 
I've used Op-Tech neoprene straps on all my DSLRs for several years and they make them far lighter (in terms of point loading) and more comfortable. Very easy to attach to the camera and they also have QR "buckles" to allow the strap to be removed should you feel the need. IIRC, the ends of the strap that stay attached to the camera can be joined to use as a wrist strap should you want to but I've never done this.
 
I use the Optech strap, never had a problem.
 
I really wouldn't hang the 70-200 from a Black Rapid. (Actually I wouldn't use a BR style with a DSLR ever but that's a different matter.) The helicoil in the tripod thread isn't deigned to bear weight in that direction and there's a fair chance you'll rip it out. I did.

A replacement is fairly cheap - assuming your camera and lens weren't damaged in the fall.

Just get Optechs and hang the camera like Nikon designed it.
 
Another vote for black rapid. One of the best accessories I have ever bought.
 
I am using an Optech pro strap with Nikon d800 with a Nikon 24-70,and it is good.
