I have a D800 & D600. I love the heft of the D800 and weather sealing but the D600 had a few advantages.

I was looking to upgrade to a D810 as some of the new features look good - then I saw the D750. It looks like an FX version of the D7000 on steroids, in the sense of great features and real world usability.

So, anyone out there been at a similar crossroads to me and got out of a D800 and into a D750. It looks to be a helluva lot of camera for your money.

I've no particular discipline when it comes to photography, so it's a mix of landscapes, bird photography, portraits.

Any advice warmly appreciated as always.

I just sold my D800 after I bought a D750. Its certainly not a D7000 on steroids, its much much better than that.

It really depends what you want, I was finding that I wasn't really "needing" the 36mp and 24mp is fine for me, the AF on the D750 is much better than the D600 or D800 (can almost focus in the dark!) - its a lot of camera for the money, great grip and handling too.
 
This is a great question Ray. I have owned a D810 and currently have a D750. I REALLY regretted selling the D810 at the time but had plans to migrate back to Canon and have really been there and back hence why I now have a D750.

Anyway, I like the external controls and high pixel count on the D810 but prefer the high iso capability of the D750.

IMVHO, it is a really tough choice between these excellent bodies.
 
I've been thinking about shifting my d800E for one of the two a lot recently, its that or hold out until march next year and grab one when I'm in china, as march past they were about £100 cheaper than even panamoz at the nikon store there.

I've just picked up a d750 off here and will be going from a d800 too, mostly for the same reason as Chris, not needing 36mp,frame speed and hopefully AF improvement (I've heard good things on here about it). I mainly photograph wildlife so AF is king. The d800 is still a great camera, it's just the d750 is just slightly better for different things.

The size of the D750 did surprised me, I wasn't expecting the sideways battery and really really deep grip. I thought it was going to be more like the d7100 I previously had. One thing I will miss with the d800 is the viewfinder curtain bug then I was using live view most of the time with landscapes so it's not too much of a loss. A bonus for me is back using the dr-6 slip on right angle viewfinder, I find it much easier to use than the nod for the d800. For most this isn't a reason to swap.
 
Went through this dilemma myself, ended up with the D750 and haven't regretted it one bit. Don't need the 36mp and apart from the 1/8000 shutter the D750 is better IMO. Much better ergonomically for me, tilt screen really useful for landscape, lighter, I prefer the control layout (contentious issue ;)), better AF. Oh, and it's cheaper ;)
 
As you have a d800 and d600 are you thinking of keeping either of them? If you are selling only the d800 then it would seem the d810 would be the one to go with as you would have thebenefits of the 36mp and better AF. If you are selling the d600 then the d750 would be a great replacement and a big improvement AF wise. A d800 and d750 would be a great pairing, I'm going to be taking that pair on a 2 night stay in skomer next weekend, it's going to be a good trial of the d750.

I only thing I've noticed is the white balance is shown on the rear LCD rather than the top LCD. I also never understand why changing white balance as to be a two hand job. Having to hold the white balance button and operate the scroll is a pain (this was the same on the d800).
 
With every camera I've had WB has been at least a 2 stage process so not something that's ever bothered me. Tbh auto WB is so good on the D750 I don't bother with changing WB anymore and I can't remember the last time I had to alter it in post.

I will not overly miss 36mp. 24 is fine by me. I like the look of the AF system and the articulated live view screen (could be useful in certain circumstances).

The specs also look very good for the videographer. Not something that is a deal breaker for me but added to the mix the 750 looks a great package.

As Rob-Nikon noted, my thinking is leaning to getting the 750 and letting go of the D600. The 750 looks a more capable camera than the D600 in a few important areas.

I think the upside of the 750 over the 600 is greater than the upside of the 810 over the 800 which is colouring my opinion, thanks to some honest real world responses on here.

If you are thinking of trading your d600 then the d750 would seem ideal. I would say whatever the d600 could do the d750 can do and more. I would say the size of d750 is similar to the d600 but has more advantages. A d800 and d810 pairing would probably mean you favour the d810 as it would be able to do what the d800 can do but better.
 
Opened the post today and had a cheque which just covers the cost of a D750 if I buy from Panamoz. If that's not a sign from up above then I don't know what is.

Genuine and sincere thanks for your thoughts. D750 here I come.

Happy days ! I'm sure you will enjoy. The Panamoz D750/24-120f4 kit price is worth looking at if you happen to find a few extra quid lying around ?
 
Hi Gary. That's the one I'm now looking at sir. I figure that the extra cost for the 24-120 is too attractive. I'll only regret it then have to spend more to buy it separately. I've never bought grey before but I can't ignore those prices.

It is a versatile, quality lens at not much extra cost. Have not used mine much but in test shots it is a great performer.

Similarly, when I got my D7200 I could not resist the price of the D7200/18-140 kit from P'moz either. I will probably give the lens to one of my kids but they will get a great lens which has effectively cost me buttons.

Just so you know, grey lenses are covered by Nikon UK warranty in the first 12M, cameras aren't. However, Panamoz own warranty is excellent. Apparently they get you to send it in to Nikon/Canon etc service centre and cover the costs.
 
I did email them as I was worried about. They echoed what you said. That is more than good enough for me. Thanks for the vote of confidence for them. Much appreciated.
 
I remember they used to offer a discount to TP members. Is that still the case or did I dream it?
