I thought I would clean out some pics, so I went through and put 599 into my quick collection. Trouble is I cant delete from disk when they are there.

Any way around this or do I start over?

Yes, in library go to the quick collection and then change to all photos - the selection should stick. Now delete them all.

If the selection doesn't stick tag them all with a new keyword such as trashme, then go to all photos, filter based on the keyword, select all, delete.

Just checked, selection doesn't stick switching from quick to all so use the second method
