Well, I've got the day off today and was planning on visiting a little tea room close to where I live that has some lovely gardens, woods and little water falls but its looking a bit grey outside. What would be the best way to shoot there? Should I be using my camera flash or off camera flash or just accept the day for what it is and see what happens?

Also was going for some long expo shots too any advice on these would be great

Thanks in advance

Dave:)

how about b+w ?

TBH flash would probably only be any good for brightening the foreground and might look a bit odd unless you get it right...

Would you be better increasing your ISO setting a bit to counter the gloom/grey day-ness...

Any long expos will obviously need support of some sort so a tripod will be your best option though you could use tables, trees, fences and so on - especially if you have a bean bag... :D

Whilst shooting in brighter conditions is mostly better you can take some pretty good stuff on greyer days if you think more about composition and what works... ;) ... and as Ian says mono might give you some great results...

Enjoy... :D

Hi Dave,

Goiod luck and enmjoy today, even if the light makes it difficult.

Thanks Rob, I dont know if you know Croydon at all? But they are on the Coombe Road just up from Lloyds Park Next to the Coombe Lodge, its called the Coombe Wood Tearooms (Conduit Lane).:)

I don't know it all that well but I am only half hour (up the M23 or A22)away so I may go find it and have a gander at some point.

Cheers!

My only tip is take hundreds of pics.
The more the better :)
I hope your not suggesting that quantity is better than quality ! he should find the right angle for the right pic and shoot it as the light changes . we always used to do shots like this on one roll of 6x6 why now hundreds, :)
