Can anyone help me to understand this, I have read the manual several times and need further clarification on this particular set up.

Light source is 250 w bulb, contrst adjustment is via the front dial which alters the position of the split blue/yellow filter screen before the light is mixed in the separate light box.

What is the point of the LH control knob ? When turned the lever pushes the sliding split filter across to "mostly" blue light and disconnects the contrast adjustment dial. What is the reason and benefit of this?

I think viewing this arrangement has helped me understand the importance of a yellow filter on the camera when taking a photo.

I don't have a De Vere but my Durst enlarger has a lever which eliminates the effect of any color filters that are in place, producing pure white light.

You might temporarily want to do this when pre-flashing or post-flashing prints, or just to make focussing easier.
I thought maybe it should lift the whole thing out of the way if the white light scenario was the reason, but the is very little movement really when the control dial is actuated, perhaps 10-15mm of sideways movement. I cannot go up or down due to physical stops. It appears to just quickly reset to grade "0"

It sounds like it may be the same principle though.

I use a 504, that knob just moves the filters out of the way so you can frame/focus the projected image a little easier.

Thanks for that LLoyd,

in your set up how much movement is there, mine only shifts enough that the filter is mostly blue, there is noticeable increase in clarity and brightness, it does not go "out of the way" though.
