Anyone got one, or can comment?

Wifeys monitor is dying and she suggested getting me a new one and she would taking over my old one on the basis that a better monitor would be better for me as she just uses hers for general use.

The new 2209WA is 22" and affordable at £ 200 but uses an E-IPS panel rather than a TN panel.
 
Not heard of it, but it sounds like a bit of a bargain! I've started using my monitor more and more (hooked up to Macbook) so looking at getting a better one.
 
I have one here and another coming next week. Good monitor.

One thing I have noticed is it gives a small beep when I receive an email and I'm unsure how it does it. It must send a signal up the DVi cable!
 
My monitor just died this pm and I'm hunting for a good monitor.

Dell UltraSharp 2209WA is what you are refering to andrewc/admirable???

Just noticed its refresh rate is only 60hz. Do you notice any flickering admirable?

I bought the 2209W version for £149.99 at pcworld as I can't wait. Its very nice, using supplied DVI-D cable. I guess the "2209WA" would be much better.
 
i can't believe his is a IPS panel, i think it might be a PVA or MVA. no one can confirm the part number for this panel from LG D.

I read somewhere on the net that someone took the monitor apart and an LG type IPS panel was used. Google it up, if I find it, I'll paste the link.
 
Mine is due tomorrow :)

In respect of the screen type ~ apart from Dell declaring its an e-IPS (still no definitive statement of what the 'e' means) its viewing angles are apparently a slam dunk for an IPS and its G2G response time as well.

For the budget it is I hope the right choice ~ before it was announced I was just about to order the HP LP2275w this has an S-PVA screen and a wider gamut than the Dell but the PVA screens AFAIK suffer at the black end of the greyscale (loss of shadow details???).

Still ordered now and ready with my Spyder3 Elite to calibrate it :D

Dunno, but the mount on the back is roughly 10cm across.

Question for monitor buffs - should I use it with a DVI cable or through the VGA analogue. I will be using my current macbook on the best option, and my desktop PC on the other and just toggle between them.
 
VGA converts the signal from a digital signal to an analog signal, and then it is converted back into a digital signal by your monitor.

DVI sends the digital signal from your graphics card, over a digital connection, so that it is displayed digitally by your monitor. No conversion in the process.

I will let you decide which of those is better.
 
I'm in need of a new monitor sometime as my venerable Sharp is suffering from some form of screen burn (yeah, wierd I know but it's there).

Anyway I saw this monitor a little while ago and now that people have them and think they are great then I'm probably going to get it :)

I have one question though, how does it look once calibrated? I've heard that some of the new wide gamut monitors look a bit funky with wierd colours once calibrated.
 
Mine arrived yesterday but had no time other than to check the box and contents.

I was surprised to see the VGA cable already attached? Just odd to me, or is it me thats odd :lol:

@Col M this monitor is not wide gamut so no funky colours, I hope!

A question please? I have an nVidia 6200 card (bought especially to use larger resolution monitors) and it has a DVI and VGA output currenty using the VGA with my NEC LCD1530v which has max 1024x768. My question is about dual monitor setups & calibration.

So the new Dell with its 1680x1050 will go on the DVI port and be calibrated but how easy is it to setup the old monitor as a second one??? I was hoping depending on how I can arrange the desk space to just leave the old one attached and just go ahead and install the Dell ~ is that sensible?

Its easy, just plug both monitors and go to settings and you can see monitors 1 and 2. Just click one of them and make it your primary monitor and the other one a secondary or slave/extension of your primary monitor. The settings are self explanatory.

Yes a little bit of faffing around but please see my question in 6) below.

Hi All


I finally managed to get mine sorted and have the following observations and queries for any feedback?

1) The 'real estate' is awesome coming from a 15inch LCD 1024x768 the difference is marked to say the least :woot:

2) They recommend DVI usage and though I did not initially test it with VGA all I can say is the text and overall clarity is extremely good.

3) Out of the box with Brightness & Contrast set to 75 it does seem very bright ~ I need to run my Spyder3 Elite tonight and calibrate it. Dropping the Brightness to 25 has made white look a little muddy, not grey just no so white? Any further suggestions for starting point of Brightness & Contrast settings before calibration ???

4) And as for opening up images in PSCS2 well a whole new experience ~ I used to forever juggle the tool palletes and image around but now I get to see so much more. Yes, I am sure a higher res 30inch screen would mean seeing the images @ 100% but heh I only have so much money & room on the desk I may have just managed to get a 24incher on the desk but how far away would I have to sit to use it and what with about double the price ;)

5) The range of setting is interesting. It has a "sharpness" setting and the default is 50 any ideas what influence of changing this settings would have PPing :shrug:

6) A question I was hoping to keep my old 15incher in use but so far have stumbled in finding a config that works OK :bang:

I have an nVidia card and that allows "Nview" ~ so if I select clone Win2000 display properties loses the two monitors settings but the 15incher will not show at 1024x768. However if I select "Dualview" the 15incher now shows in the Win2K Display Properties and you can see the different settings for each monitor but in this mode all it can do is be an extension for the Dell and as far as I can tell "its desktop" is bigger than the resolution.

Though W2K 'found' the Dell and install its default driver I did go ahead and update this using the drives on the CD but that had no effect.

To summarise there appears to be no way to use dual monitors and keep the old secondary at its native resolution

Any thoughts & feedback would be very welcome

Edit - having had it running for a few hours I note it does have a hotter/warmer spot ~ this is the upper left hand quarter, the case and the screen is warmer than the rest of the screen in that area. Same for you???

I have a Spyder3 Elite and got the following results under different Brightness & Contrast settings.

1) Spyder recommends leaving the monitor at defaults so I set the Bright & Contrast at 75/75

Results :-
Luminance 225
Delta E White Point 0.9
Delta E 50% Grey 0.1
Gamma 2.21

2) 25/75 (a setting think was suggested elsewhere herabouts)

Results :-
Luminance 158.2
Delta E White Point 1.2
Delta E 50% Grey 0.1
Gamma 2.19

3) 20/70

Results :-
Luminance 138.8
Delta E White Point 0.1
Delta E 50% Grey 0.1
Gamma 2.23


Now based on my understanding of optimal Luminance and Delta E the last results are near darned perfect. Maybe at the top end of the advised Luminance but extremely good result I think.

Have I interpreted these correctly???

i am well aware of the chinese people who did that. i read all the chinese posts on the matter, they couldn't tell if it's an IPS, cos the part code LM2204W4 or sumthing like that is not available on the LG D website.

the previous 2 versions of the panels are TN and most chinese people are saying a new matrix of IPS for less than £200 (equivalent) is very very unlikely. as the panels are made in china, in the city Nan Jing ;) if no one knows if they are batching out IPS panels at 22inch, then it's a tail tail sign
 
Ref IPS panel or not as the case may be???

Dell on an earlier screen did intorduce what was called the 'screen lottery' i.e. depending on when & where in the global marketplace it was bought I think you got either an IPS or PVA panel but Dell never actually declared the panel type it was by analysis of the monitor that the fiasco was revealed.

So with the 2209wa Dell have declared the panel type and they are a big company but our litigious (sp?) cousins across the pond would likely threaten to take them to the cleaners if this did not have an IPS panel. Indeed, surely under the Trades Description Act in the UK stating IPS in the spec but selling something else would be deemed a breach of that act, wouldn't it???

For the record I am so far delighted with the 2209wa. Just need to grapple with finalising the optimal settings of Brightness & Contrast to best effect.

On that note - in the Spyder3 calibration it lists Brightness, Contrast & Backlight. So the 2209wa has the B & C controls but is the Brightness in reality the Backlight control???

I'm considering splashing the cash on one of these. Now that you've had it for a little while are you still impressed with it ?
