Yes
I just bought a dell u2711 monitor, the cable that cable with it has four little pins around the wide pin it's a dvi cable but on the monitor side there isn't 4 holes around the wide pin.

I tried using an older dvi cable which doesn't have the extra pins but the monitor does work.

Can anyone help.

doesnt make a difference using a cable without the 4 extra pins

heh yeah it does, the monitor doesnt turn on without the extra pins as a I said.

The company just let me know they sent the wrong kind of DVI cable, it needs to be a DVI-D cable so they are sending me one through the post.

Where did you get it from because the cables should be in the box?

no bother :)

im surprised it doesnt work to be honest, if i remember off the top of my head the 4 extra pins only carry an analogue signal alongside the digital one? i run adapters on my cables for my dell 2209's.

otherwise "thatcable" (on ebay or their website) have some pretty good and nice build cables of both types.

the replacement should arrive tomorrow so it shouldnt matter too much. Although running this monitor through vga and at 1600x1200 max res is a bit of a downer.

Hi,

Thinking of buyin this monitor but my laptop hasn't a dvi input but those have a hdmi input..

My question is, will it work also with a hdmi cable as oppose to dvi cable

I dont think the hmdi cable will output to the max res of the monitor. You will need either a display port or dual link DVI cable.

although looking at google I think I might be wrong ;) I could try it for you if I can find an hdmi cable here
