Some members, interested in architecture and after seeing some
examples in pictures I've posted, expressed the wish to see more
of typical, historical shots of buildings here in Austria.
I will present seven takes on the RETZHOF that are in my book (in
three languages) over the south Styrian area and its wine country.
1
The portal view — that is not in use anymore as most traffic comes
through the back of the castle
2
The courtyard — looking back to the portal, from the second floor
of the building
3
The inner court 1 — the multiple arcades illustrate their original pur-
pose: the stables. Most entrance to the stables were walled. Where
the tree is, in the old days, was a drinking fountain for the horses.
4
The inner court 2— at its completion, in the 15th c., this other and
smaller fountain was not there
5
The inner court 3 — west façade
6
The inner court 4 — looking direction NE from the ground floor
7
The stair to the Bishop's rooms
