Hi all,

I'm from the Ascot, Berkshire area, and am looking for some abandoned / derelict places to shoot at.

If anyone has any ideas of where I could go, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers.

Is the old IBM building in Bracknell still standing? That's an interesting one for sure.

Have a look at the 28dayslater web site for places near you and inspiration.

Hello  im in bracknell. The tall 3M building is still there but I'm nit sure you will get access as the council bricked up all the doors to stop kids mucking about in there. There are some old un-occupied business units (probably not what you really want) down kennel lane in Bracknell. There is also one old boarded up house in Egham can't remember the address but can find out if your interested?

Thanks for the info guys, and the warning.

Hopefully it would be obvious on a respected website, and what I like to think of as a respectable hobby, I will clearly go about obtaining access to the chosen arras in the right way. As much as I would like a great photo, I don't wish to break the law or offend anybody in the process.

OK. Just be aware that a lot of urbexers have their own ideas about the legalities of getting access to closed/secure sites, and the challenges that go with them. That's one of the reasons why they can be secretive about exact locations and so on, until you've established bona fides. OTOH, there are lots of well known sites on these forums too, possibly too well known from the amount of vandalism.

I've never heard of urbex being described as a "respectable hobby" before! Urbex is for the most part wandering round in places where you shouldn't be, so be mindful that you might well be asked to leave, find yourself in a building that's full of pikies stripping the copper, or used as a doss house, or have rotten wooden floors.
In terms of breaking the law, trespass in most places is a civil offence, not a criminal one (exceptions being military and nuclear sites, railway sites, etc), but as soon as you cause damage, you're then causing a criminal offence. And the Police have been known to arrest explorers for being 'in an enclosed space', a fairly nebulous concept that rarely gets charges pressed. If you're not keen on breaking the law, then try asking permission (rarely granted, but no unheard of), or just stick with external shots from the street.

Thanks for all the advice guys, after reading what you've all said I'll be giving this a miss. The pros don't really outweigh the cons. Thanks for all your help though.

A lot of those guys are very well kitted out for what they do, and hold good morals. And it's becoming surprisingly popular.

Many places you will have to plan for security and/or police, but it depends what you're interested in. I find abandoned rural buildings all the time. Came across one today..

I was a bit concerned about going inside as it wasn't exactly structurally sound, and it was bloody creepy, what with things banging in the wind. Then I passed it again 20 mins later only to see a whole family there, with a load of kids (all under 12), straight in, running about..

check out http://www.oblivionstate.com its a little nicer. If you ask people about locations then just make sure its done out of public domains as once everyone knows about them, they get trashed. Join up with a few urbex groups on facebook too, they can give some locations. A few good locations are in hawkshurst in Kent, theres an abandoned girls school and an orphanage whcih are sweet.
