Did I make a newbie mistake?

Hi, I bought a Nikon D3000 with standard 18-55mm lens.

Then I decided to buy a Nikon 55-200mm.

I'm thinking I should have bought a body only and an 18-200mm lens.

I can't do anything now, but is my reasoning correct?

Thanks.

have a read of the reviews here, cameralabs.com, it might put your mind at ease.

No you did not, you have two capable lenses, just needs some effort and practice on your part to get the best out of them

Nothing wrong there, i started with those two lens on a D40x and they were more than capable to get me on my way. Once i had got a feel i began to add a wider lens to my collection and then a nifty to get a faster lens. Never look back and regret i say, just move forward!

Lenses are optimised to work within certain limits. Stretch the limits and quality will suffer, or they get heavier and more expensive. This is why the very expensive zoom lenses cover a fairly short range at shorter focal lengths eg 16-35, 17-40 and gradually the range increases - 24-70, 70-200, 100-300, 100-400 and so on. Swapping lenses to suit your photography is one of the things that makes an slr special.
