Digital Medium Format Thread

I do have a question on post processing.
I'm shooting raw so the film type bnw or colour doesnt seem to make much difference other than seeing in bnw before and perhaps more interesting subjects.

However, may be its the older wide lens (28mm pentax) but the center always seems to be really light, eg in the skys. To recover some of the sky the rest goes meh...
So I wanted to ask if that is just me (bad process settings in lr), the lenses (the vintage having light reflecting too much perhaps) and whether you have any links to settings in lr to get good contrasty results..

I had an ultra-wide zoom on full frame which did that. Not sure why it happens other than the wide angle fooling the metering, but I think it's a lens issue.

Almost certainly a lens issue, you could try applying a vignette first to balance the brightness of the image a bit, may or may not work (or use radial filters) - but really if shooting legacy glass you have to buy into the charm, if you want otherwise, it’s native glass time!

Not happy with the image quality this site delivers. But there is nothing that can be done about it.
Trying a link from Flickr. Is there a better way?

Fondled a GFX100RF at Fujifilm House of Photography today.

Plus points -

Weight, it feels really light, its compact too, even with lens hood on.
EVF - very nice, big and bright
AF seemed reasonably snappy

Negative points -

It doesn't feel that it has premium build quality (and certianly not up to my current Leica Q3), and I would say that it didn't feel as rugged as by previous GFX50S.
I still don't think the lens is fast enough, not just against the competition, but for its price point in the market.

Fujifilm GFX 100s + 200mm pentax 645 + 2x Extension

Fujifilm GFX 100s + 200mm pentax 645

A bit of a dirty sensor... which I tried to clean the normal way.. except the camera wasnt on.. IBIS the sensor wobbling... different. Next time ES + on ... as there is no way to close the shutter when swapping lenses....

The colour one is such a clean image considering the lack of light. Medium Format advantage?

Hiya All,

A gallery of images taken on a recent trip to Budapest.

Budapest - Fujifilm GFX100RF

Cheers,
Shane.

Lovely, some beautiful framing

Nice to see a forum user with a GFX100RF, what are your impressions - I've got a bit diverted from this thread and appear to have gone down a Leica rabbit hole!

Hiya,

I sold the Nikon Zf and lenses for the RF.

I’ve been getting more and more into Long Exposure and Urban Landscape photography - along with general Travel shooting.

The Zf is fab, and the Voigtlander lenses I had incredible - however, after looking at the RF I decided the camera - with it’s design/style and features, and it’s huge resolution would do what i would want - in such a light and portable package.

I’m really loving it.

The viewfinder is a higher resolution than the Zf - a lot nicer. The aspect ratio dial is so useful. I know many cameras have different aspect ratios but the way it’s implemented on the RF is great. I’m loving the physical digital teleconverter toggle - again so well implemented. With 102mp it is truly like having a bunch of lenses available.

The RFs smallest resolution when using the teleconvertor at its longest focal length in 4:3 aspect (cropped in the most) is bigger than the native resolution of the Zf (3:2). Amazing.

F/4.0 and no IBIS doesn’t bother me - not for my style of shooting/intended usage. It will be on a full or travel tripod a lot of the time - and I have often been shooting down to 1/15 -1/30th with it handheld without difficulty (any slower than that and I’ll put it on my mini travel tripod).

It’s not going to be for everyone, but for me it’s a great choice that I’m happy I made.

Cheers,
Shane

Pleased for you, I had a good play with RF at the Fujifilm shop in Covent Garden, the EVF is lovely and I agree about your IBIS point, years of shooting with X100 series cameras and leaf shutters enable slow shutter speeds without issue

The RF is a lovely bit of kit and if I didn’t already own a Leica Q3 then I’d be buying one.

Hi all.

Has anyone on here used any of the Phase One backs?

If so, is Capture One the only way to really process the RAW IIQ files they create?

Have seen a back that looks interesting and not. bad price, and yes I already have a couple of MFD cameras, but one more never hurt

I don't use a Phase One back, but know a little bit about them, and I'm a long term Capture One user.

ACR (Lightroom) supports Phase One backs (see link), but Capture One is a great program and you should get a free copy that "only supports Phase One backs", but I'm not sure how that works with secondhand backs, especially as Capture One is now a separate company to Phase One.

I haven't come across anyone who doesn't use Capture One with their Phase One files, But from a limited sample.

EDIT: I see the link doesn't go to the Phase One support page that I copied the link from, but to the search page, So you still need to search for Phase One after you follow the link.
