Do members use infra-red/thermal processing/images?

come come this was deleted?

I'd love to convert my D60 to infra-red, but I can't until I get a decent back up to the D700.

Supposed to be quite easy to do as well.

As for thermal imaging, I was thinking about this the other day. I am really getting in to insulations research and green living, mainly to cut the huge costs we all have to pay. I was wondering if you can get thermal cameras cheap so that you can easily compare before and after shots of homes to show how good insulation is :)

At some point, I may get my D70 converted to IR. I've looked at Thermal Imaging Camera prices and had to sit down.

are they really that bad?

might just buy a laser thermometer then and then plot the results on a photo :D

This could turn in to a really interesting thread even without the OP :D

It's not, not on the later cameras such as the D60,unless you're handy with a soldering iron. Even then the company that "professionally" converted my brand new D40 managed to short the main circuit board whilst doing the conversion, writing the camera off. :bang:

:thumbsdown:I had a guide somewhere that made it sound simple. :(

What's the other option? an older nikon DSLR?

The D70 is fairly sensitive to IR and I've played a little with an IR filter but not really got the results I want. Getting it converted would allow me to frame better (they rejig the filter over the sensor rather than rely on you fitting the correct filter on the lens) and IIRC, they sort the metering and AF as well so they're more suited to the IR wavelengths.

I could just play with film but I'm not sure how suitable my bodies are - I have a feeling that they both (F65 & F80) use an IR beam somewhere in the film path which could mess up the results - I'll have to suck it and see!

I was referring to this type of processing. I dont think I have ever come across photography like it on here?

So what are we supposed to be talking about here? Thermal or IR images? Or both? Because they are two entirely different disciplines.

onikami keeps posting things then deleting them so not really sure.

But we can discuss both :D
