format a Western Digital My Book 2TB that is connected to the router ?

It seems I cannot format or partition it, which is what I am trying to do as I would like my WD drive to be found by the PS3 to play back films and pictures.

Any ideas ??

connected to your router via network cable or USB?

if the former then youll need to load the web interface i would have thought, the latter you may need to plug it into a computer.

Tried via network cable direct to router and to pc and also bu usb, seems can't access it.

Where would I find the web interface ??

the same way you would have set it up originally?

i.e. - put http://thenameoftheharddrive into your browser

(where "thenameoftheharddrive" is the network name or IP address of the hard drive)

thinking about it, being a network drive it might be restricted to a certain file system so you might only have the option to delete/create partitions..

Have you tried the 'Advanced Mode' in the top right there?

Yep can't see anything in advanced mode either - will put a screen grab up when I am home tonight.

Other option is to get another hard drive that I can format and connect it to the Western Digital via the usb port on the back - would this work ??

depends on the WD.. i know you can share out a pre-formatted drive on my synology. does it mention anything in the manual?

What's in remote access?

There should be a tick box or option thingy somewhere that tells it to share itself. I'd expect it to be using SMB and the playstation should be able to browse it assuming that they're both on the same network range.

Can you see it from other computers as a shared network drive?
