Have been having a look around the net to try and find some free web hosting for a web site for my local camera group but everything I seem to find either isnt free or is only free if you use them as your ISP.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a really free hosting service dont need anything flash very basic site really but dont want to pay :)

I've used them before when testing webpages in a 'live' environment... I'm not sure if they're ad-free though...
 
You can build a site using one of the free blog services like Blogger or Wordpress by putting content on "Pages" and keeping the "Posts" as a news feed. One of the upsides of this is that you don't have any bandwidth usage or storage space limit issues to worry about and you can just add content without having to do any coding.
 
I pay £3.30 for "unlimited" web hosting. I can run as many domains as I like off it at no extra cost, currently, we have 4 between us. Surely, someone can donate £3.30/month for a club website. If you're interested: http://www.unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk

A friend of mine uses aegishosting which appears to be a one-man band, but also effectively unlimited.
 
You can use http://www.5quidhost.co.uk/hosting.php for free and they're good and reliable. But for free it'll be ok if you've not got too many requirements but if you're planning on hosting photos or much else you're going to run out of resources quite quickly unless you go on a paid plan.

As a follow-up to this, I find that Webuda are now putting a pop-up ad on one of the sites I host with them - maybe because of the traffic it receives?
