A close proximity hard flash will produce unexpectedly
crisp specular textures, hard contrast and intense colours.
All together, they add up to desirable effect on products
and possibly on a light coloured coat but on a dark one!
I wonder what if… something should be done to soften it.
 
Yes, it woks for me Matt (y).......personal choice, but I'd want to give it some clock-wise rotation to straighten his/her? head :)

Might have tried a little crop off the bottom of the photo, but my screen does not see the whole thing, so may be wrong (usually am.....)
 
Love this shot, I like the textures highlighted in the light, but as mentioned I would crop a little off the bottom.
