Hi

I was just wondering exactly how busy/congested the car park and surrounding area is at the weekends. Sunrise is around 7.50 ish and I was wondering if I got there around 7am, would I stand a better chance of getting a parking space?:)

Many thanks.

Lisa

Hi Lisa

You will get a parking space at any time. At that time it will more than likely be free on the left, later you might have to go the other end and pay £1. Both areas are 150 yards from the beach

Thanks ever so much. If it's a really dull day, is flash frowned upon?

This is the car park I'm aiming for

LN11 7NT. Marsh Lane

Yeah, that'll be fine. Won't be too busy unless something weird is going on. Personally I would avoid using a flash. No one can tell you for sure what effect it would have on the seals (i.e. do they care or not) but when it comes to these things, I tend towards the safer and more respectful option.

Thank you. I'll start off with my 70-200 at 2.8 if it's darkish and see how I go, I can always nip back to the car to put the extender on if I need more reach.

It's just that I saw some pics and the phoographer said he'd used grads and flash. But obviously, the welfare of the seals come first.

Is the area where I'm planning on going to fenced off?

Hello Lisa, have you read this thread? It's long and pretty heavy going in places but it's imprtant and informative and you will get plenty of good tips towards the end.

Hi Kev

Thanks for the link, no I hadn't seen that thread. I've just read it all the way through. It is informative.

I can't believe people have been getting so close to the pups and looming over them. Beggars belief.

I note someone has written that there were around 5,900 visitors on the Sunday. Not much chance of getting in that car park by the sounds of it.:)

Seriously though, I'm going to have a re-think as although I'm respectful to wildlife (but asked a question re flash), do I really want to witness such goings on by 'photographers'? The answer is no.

Thanks again.

Lisa

In terms of the free car park, I arrived there at 07.15 on sunday and it was about half full (it`s a relatively small car park)

By 07.30/45 it was more or less full. And this was a day with terrible weather!

As mentioned though, there is another car park near by and is only a £1

Don't let the actions of the minority put you off. No you're armed with the information on how to act, go there and behave appropriately. I think it better to go there and behave properly than not go and leave the less informed and the blatently selfish to ruin it.

Thanks, I'll sleep on it.

Circus comes to mind. :bonk:

The second carpark was nearly empty at 9 a couple of weeks ago. It's worth the quid for the loos and bacon sarnie van :)
