Depends on carriers and couriers ,sounds like this has come in via Manchester or the u.k couriers main depot is in derbyshire . It's a way of life these days take a chill pill

The U.S. part of the journey seems about right. America is a very big place and it's not financially viable to just send a package from A direct to B so they follow set routes via distribution hubs. It's not unusual to see a package bought from the east coast head westwards before coming back again - and it's slow. You're also very likely to be charged import fees etc. if you haven't paid up front, much more likely than from other countries.

yeah kinda depends also on how much courier cost you paid, low cost couriers can take really slow cheep routes.

I'm guessing this is going to be delivered by UPS which in my experience of them delivering from the USA they are usually really good

Amusing that it visited the state of Kentucky twice  must really like fried chicken

"East Midlands Airport
is the UK’s busiest pure cargo airport and second only to Heathrow, handling over 320,000 tonnes of flown cargo every year. We are the UK hub for DHL and UPS, and support operations for TNT and Royal Mail."

We stayed at a wacky motel in California, my partner liked their dessert glasses which were for sale but I vetoed the purchase as getting 6 heavy glasses back intact seemed foolhardy.
Skip on to a significant anniversary in October and I order a set to be shipped, paying almost the same for shipping as the glasses. My expensive shipping turned out to be USPS untracked :(.
After a couple of weeks I query the order, no news.
Another couple of weeks I ask again, no news. Anniversary missed.
Another couple of weeks I ask again and say if they don't know where the glasses are I'd like them declared lost and have my money back.
A week later they contact me to say the glasses have been returned to them with insufficient postage but wasn't true so they've asked USPS to take them and send them to me.
They "prove" by sending me a scan of the return paperwork. I look and see that instead of UNITED KINGDOM as I entered they've been sent to my address details BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. Menu drop down slip presumably.
They've been to the midwest, then Miami and then the Virgin Islands who kindly returned them with "Unknown address" USPS then applied the shipping surcharge in Miami for the journey back to California.
Another 2 weeks and the Motel agreed they're gone forever and refund me.
Just before Valentine's day I get a "You were out" card from the postman. I go and pick up my unexpected parcel - it looks like it's been around the world twice, kicked every inch but amazingly the glasses inside were intact only 6 months after I ordered :)

Was yeasterday inn derbyshere but now moved to Wednesbury in the West Midlands. As I used to live near to that area I don't think there is much of interest for my parcel to go and see.So maybe it will move on to a new place of interest tomorrow and have a look around there. My bet is Birmingham, so hope it doesn't get mugged while there.
i have already paid all taxes and duties when purchased

This is why you use Fedex - From USA to UK in less time than people in the UK deliver from few counties over.

This was an ebay purchase as the item is not available in the UK and ebay have their own distribution system, the Global Shipping Programme they call it

Quote ebay:

Items generally arrive within 3-5 days in the EU and 7-10 days for non-EU destinations. Parcels can take a little longer; however, packages sent via the GSP benefit from professional customs processing, which helps to minimise any delays at customs.

Which is just a huge network of individual couriers and freight forwarders.
How do I know? I work for a freight forwarder which is part of both EBay's GSP and a satellite Amazon fulfillment centre. :)

I use them a lot ,best recent one was a lens that went via GSP to the top of Norway ,I was quite surprised when the buyer left me good feedback 4 days later .

I once sent a parcel from the UK to a buyer in Luxembourg, that's the Royal Dutchy of Luxembourg in Europe.

It got there eventually but travelled via Luxembourg USA

Sometimes I wonder how some of these people manage to figure out how to get out of bed in the morning and must be thankful for the invention of the Velcro that is on the straps on their shoes.

What a terrible delivery service and i suspect an attempted theft of contents as the packet was opened and not by customs as no customs reseal sticker Top torn by me but not side facing that was how i got it a damn great slit along the front edge.
Item is a specialist bit of kit no good without correct machine for it to fit which I have but out of production now

this is ebays own global parcel deliver service .
needless to say I am disgusted and posted that on ebay item review

I once sent somebody the wrong lens. They ordered a 24-105mm f/4 but I sent them a 16-35mm f/2.8 which had a similar asset tag number in our inventory system and a similar serial number.

Clearly I am a total cretin.

How could you ruin my day with this tragic tale of woe  I trust you were suitably birched for such an heinous crime
