My friends daughter has just got engaged, (please don't shout at me)... now i have spoken to said B2B and given a few links to certain web sites and have tried to give her and idea about what she may need to think about, blinking heck i mean in a wedding tog..

now as we all know i have no idea what i am talking about so any advice.. will be a great help.

have no idea of budget. or what she wants as she dosn't know her self. and also told her i am not the person. (god forbid)

cheers guys..

Terri:gag:

really we need to know roughly what the budget is before we can give any specific sensible advice.

but that said in general she needs to be looking for someone who knows what they are doing and has a portfolio to prove it (this applies even if she's at the 'fifty quid and a date with the bridesmaid' end of the market as even if you get someone who's working for experience its good to know they can compose, expose and post process)

General things to think about (apart from what they can afford) would be

what style of shots do they like ie traditional, reportage, modern etc - best to look at some websites or issues of 'bride' or whatever for ideas. Also think about a draft shot list are there people they can't leave out and so forth

how long they want the tog for (e.g do they want just ceremony, ceremony and reception to first dance, as above but all night, or the full nine yards including getting ready, other couple shots etc)

and are they going to want to order lots of prints and albums etc or is it just the increasingly popular rights released CD

Once they've thought about all that and set a budget they are ready to start getting quotes

(assuming the wedding is going to be oop north in your neck of the woods i'm far to far away to be in the running - but i'm sure theres folk here who venture past the watford gap)

*** if the word wedding gets mentioned by some one who knows not what they are they are talking about get a harsh time "some times"..

generally only if its in the context of "i'm starting a wedding business despite not having a 'king clue" you've explicitly ruled yourself out of this one so i think you are safe

 i wouldn't even try ... my kids already know when they get to this who is doing the job...

Hang on a minute..... I've never been interested in wedding photography before, but I didn't realise this end of the market existed!

I have a camera and a kit lens and I once took a half decent shot of a meerkat ....what are the bridesmaids like?

haha, you'd be terrified to see some people who advertise themselves as 'wedding photographer's work...

just causes crying brides.

OP, I'd suggest that once the venue etc is sorted for the happy day, you post a thread in the talk business section with a location and a date, and some of the professional and highly experienced members who are wedding photographers in the area will be able to help you.
