Just a little rant!

Do you think 560 days is a reasonable lifetime for a hard drive!

Its only my 160gig drive so its not much of a loss, Im just gutted i have to buy a new drive and re-install everything,I suppose it gives me an excuse to upgrade to windows 7 !

Glad my 250x2 RAID array is still alive, though i'm a little worried about it as i cant see any SMART Info through the raid controller.
:'(:(:shake::thinking::shrug::thumbsdown::bang:

By the way if anyone's wondering what the HDD monitoring program is, its Hard Disk Sentinel. Was able to spot the drive deteriorating over the last few months so had a backup sorted.
Its free, but the newer versions have restricted some of the information, so get an older version if you can.

some raid controllers dont pass on the SMART status so i wouldnt worry too much about that.

yup id say that disk is screwed. swings and roundabouts with hard disks though, its a mechanical part so could fail on day 1 or 1000..

Unlucky but at least you saved your stuff. My boy had two, yes two brand new ssd`s go down a while back, barely a month old. After emailing the manufacturer in HK or wherever it was abroad, they paid for a courier to collect them, recovered all data set it all back up on two new drives and posted them back, all done in just over a week. Total cost to my boy, £0.00

Yeah, that's the problem though , without SMART info I cant monitor the drives, for all i know they could be failing, but i cant be that unlucky,surely.

Unlucky for two to fail, that or bad products. Nice to hear how the manufacturer acted though.

This is my second failure, the failed drive (well its still clinging on at the moment) was a replacement for a Hitachi drive which died about 2 years ago.

Not once lost anything through a failure, just when i formatted the wrong drive about four years back! :bonk:
