Due to several factors (time,money,motivation,money,wifes new work schedule,money) I am going to be selling off most of my kit.

I'm currently shooting FF nikon which I bought with the intention of pursuing weddings part time. Owing to all of the above factors that's now not going to happen,and therefore I am moving to a simpler (cheaper!) set up.

I mainly shoot Urbex and my kids, maybe the odd landscape but those 2 things are my usual subjects.

I'll have about £500 to spend on equipment (excluding tripod,bag,memory cards) and here in lies the conundrum....

My head says Canon crop (700d etc) 10-18 and 24mm pancake lens. I've had this stuff before and it's a great low budget set up which would be perfect for what I shoot,but my heart says now is the perfect situation to go for a Fuji X100s which has always been on my wishlist (I had an xt1 briefly and loved the output).

I know the crop Canon and lenses makes more sense as a complete system (one which I'll not be adding to for the foreseeable ) but the X100s,well,it's an X100s!

I'd really appreciate any input from anyone, especially anyone who uses or as used any of the X100 range as their only camera.
 
If you can 'cope' with fixed prime lens and 28mm is going to be wide enough then the Fuji is a great camera. If not have you considered a CSC?

I think I would be ok with having the one focal length ( a 35mm practically lived on my 5d when I had one), but I think I might miss the width for any Urbex stuff.

I had thought about a CSC but there was nothing I could see that would fall within my budget and give me the wide angle option( or at least an affordable wide angle). I have had a Sony A6000 before but just couldn't get on with it.

Due to my health, arthritis setting in, I face a similar problem. I have just bought the Sony RX100mk3 from a member on here, early days with it yet but seems fine for me as I shoot mostly landscapes.

Depends how wide you want to go, you could get a used Olympus EM10 with 14-42mm pancake (28-84mm eq) for around £300-350 and then buy the 20mm f1.7 for shots of your kids, the 20mm f1.7 is a really nice lens although AF can be a tad slow when changing distance. You can get the Panny 12-32mm pancake (24-64mm eq) instead of the 14-42mm if you wanted a bit wider. Olympus menus are a bit of a nightmare, but once you've got everything set up an personalised where you want it they really are great to use.
 
It's surprising how much you can get from a single focal length as available on the X100 cameras. Plus there's always the wide and tele convertors if you really find you need a little bit extra. In many ways it expands your creativity.
 
Fuji xe2 with 18mm might work for you plus the xc16-50mm, very decent for not much money

Following on from this, the Panasonic LX100 might be worth a look.
 
I love the JPEGs that the Fuji system chucks out so would go down that route. Personally though, I wouldn't go the X100 route, especially with the supplementary wide/tele converters - too damn fiddly and expensive compared to either bayonet fit lenses or zooms. One of the flip out screen X? bodies and either a collection of primes or a couple of zooms would be my choice (I have an X-Pro1 and an X-T1 with a few zooms alongside a Nikon FF system.)
 
Digital Rev have the Fuji XE2 kit with XF18-55 lens for £499. I just bought one, took 3 days delivery from Hong Kong. If you like the XT1 and X100s, you'll love one of these.

Value basket have the XT10 body for £393 new and plenty of used lens to be had in fact wex have a number of used cameras and lens available at low prices.

That just might be your best option tbh D7xxx series are all good value for money or a new D7200 can be had for less than £600 now

Only if you get an import surely? More like a second hand d7000 or 7100 which can be had relatively cheap.

I'd thought about that but it would mean getting new glass as well because my current lenses (Tamron 24-70, and Nikon 70-200) aren't wide enough for me on a crop.

True but then I'd be missing a general lens. I need to sell all of the current kit first as well to see exactly how much I have to play with money wise.

Part of the appeal of the x100s is that it would eliminate any temptation to go over budget because I can't actually change the lens (apart from the wide / telephoto adapter things which are crazy expensive for what they are anyway! )

I do also like the idea of having a smaller camera than a DSLR as well. I found that when I had smaller systems before that I used them a lot more and also got better shots in some situations because I felt less conspicuous.

Even the likes of a 700d with a pancake lens is still quite 'in your face' for some situations.
 
IMO, for urbex, the X-Pro1 would be close to ideal paired with the 18mm or an 18-? zoom. The X-Pro isn't really fast enough for kids though! The X-T1 is probably fast enough for kids though. Love both of mine! If I had to pick just one of them, I'd keep the X-T1 but it's not the cheap option.
 
I can understand where your coming from with budget etc but think you may miss the lens interchange ability ?
Like yourself I'm Nikon FF as well as Canon FF and this week I have added a Fuji Xpro1 into the stable with 3 lens.
In fact thinking about it you shouldn't take one single bit of notice from me :eek: I'm not the best person to be advising you with being so indecisive my self:runaway::thinking:
I don't think you will be disappointed with the Fuji X series though :)

I had an xt1 ( I've had a lot of cameras....) and I absolutely loved it. The thing that put me off Fuji was the price of lenses and the lack of cheaper options. However that was a time when I was looking for a whole range of lenses. At the moment I could probably cope with a 27mm and a 12mm Samyang....

I'm going to have to get the calculator out....
 
Work out your budget first, then look at options. If its 500 then you won't get an xt1, then there's lenses. Xe2 kit was a good shout for your budget, otherwise a used d7100 and tamron 17-50.
 
Well having spent much of the night awake ( thanks to a snuffly 6 month old) I've had time to have a good look about and I think I'm going to stretch my budget to £600 and go for a Fuji Xt-10 with the 18-55 2.8-4 from Panamoz.

I'll be ok with the 27mm equivalent at the wide end for now,and it'll also scratch that Fuji itch I have.

If it's anything like the Xt1 (which apparently it is) then I'll be happy!

Good choice, the XT10 is meant to be every bit as good as it's b****r brother!
 
Yes, a great choice. I have both the 1 and the 10, and though there's some control differences the 10 is every bit as good.

Well having spent much of the night awake ( thanks to a snuffly 6 month old) I've had time to have a good look about and I think I'm going to stretch my budget to £600 and go for a Fuji Xt-10 with the 18-55 2.8-4 from Panamoz.

Really simple could be something like the Sony RX100 IV, the images are actually really impressive for such a small compact. Going down the mirroless route I did look into Olympus and Fuji, both are good options, but you can end up spending almost as much on glass as you would with the FF Nikon.

The XT10 could also be a very good choice.

Head up if you selling the Tamron I might be interested.
 
Due to Ulnar Nerve issues I only use the Fujix100T
It's an excellent camera and I use the wide and tele adaptors
And I love it!

I'll have to see what the differences are, but I like the fact the the XT-10 will be like the XT-1 that I loved so much.

I get what you're saying about the glass, and the of cost trying to populate a full system is what drove me away from Fuji last time. But currently I literally can't afford to spend too much, and I'm resigned to that fact! If I can get the 18-55 now (which I remember to be a stunning little lens, especially for being a 'kit' lens), and maybe the 12mm Samyang when funds permit, that will literally cover everything I shoot these days.

Keep an eye on the classifieds, all my Nikon kit will be up in the next few days
