Dream camera?

I was just idly wondering what the ultimate camera would be and what it could do that current ones can't do at the moment. So far I have decided it would have to be medium format quality, no bigger than a micro 4/3rds with one magic lens that would go from 10mm fish eye to 700mm zoom, pin sharp through the entire range. IS naturally. It would also have the same dynamic range as the human eye so none of this having to choose whether you had blown highlights or no detail in shadows. I think the laws of physics may need to be altered...

The shutter would be non mechanical - a polymer filter that would filter out all or some of the light so you could have much faster fps and built in dodge/burn or grad filter. 40 fps would do and a CIPA battery life of 10,000 shots otherwise you'd go to one place, press the shutter once and flatten your battery in under a minute ;)

It would also have intelligent image tagging so it would know the difference between a canada goose and a mallard, location tagging so that it would know you were looking at Fiddler's Ferry across the Cheshire plain and it would also link to your phone to upload photos wherever you were without having to download them to a computer first. Voice to text feature and voice control for some functions so you could easily describe an image and then email it off or just make notes on what you were doing at the time.

It would also have a telepathy mode so it would know what you intended to take so might nudge you take those 3 steps to the left or suddenly decide to stand on a nearby rock :)

Anything I've missed?

haha i think all that would be cool but something like that could take alot of the fun out of it IMO its like having an automatic car with cruise control and all the toys that almost drives itself, nice but not half as fun as a manual :D a 10-700mm f/1.8 lens would be cool tho! dan.

something like an old Rolleiflex that never ran out of film and was free to develop :)

Or easy to develop film that didn't need anything but dunking in plain water... you can tell I'm not much of a chemist... would also have to be dust repellent to reduce time spent cleaning up after scanning :D

A full frame Canon 1Ds that can reel off 9/10FPS and have good high ISO performance like the D3s.

I love the 1D but coming from a 5D I do miss the wide end a little.

Just give me a 10x8 with a few lenses, free film and processing and I would be over the moon.

Full frame sensor, no mirror, optical viewfinder with metering info and split prism focusing or double image focusing like my Zorki4k, could just be b&w if it did it nicely and only goto iso800 if it did it as cleanly and noise free as the D3 does.

The only thing I would change about my D700 would be to give it a split/microprism screen to aid MF.

A fast superzoom (10-500 f/2.8) would be nice but I can see that the technical limitations would make it too much of a compromise to be as good as it sounds!

5 FPS (as given by the D700) is plenty for me and is expandable by adding an excrescence (grip) to 8 FPS. Battery life is also fine and a battery can be swapped out quickly when needed - keep an eye on the meter and swap it before the icon starts flashing.

A full frame digital viewfinder that would take my oly OM lenses and didn't cost an arm and a leg!

Right now I would settle for a 5D2 that was 200 grams lighter with a selection of L glass that weighed no more than 500 grams each

Anything that has better ISO than my 450D haha sooo Canon 1D MKIV?!

So basically, buy a 5D mkII and don't use the features that you consider stupid?

or buy a 5D  funny when i look through the viewer i have this ability to see faces, so i don't understand this face recognition is it for strangers only

I love  mine.

Merc[S1]i love my 5D[/S1]

I already have one dream camera, the F2. I still want a Leica III series to complete the set but can't afford it right now.

I'll settle for the one I have now, but with a small add-on that screws to the tripod mount, and allows you to travel instantly to anywhere, anywhen, and control the weather when you get there.

Well I've carefully acqured most the film cameras I coveted years ago but couldn't afford so I have most of my dream cameras - as far as flm is concerned anyway.

As for digital - there's nothing out there I'd currently want in place of the 7D. OK then - a digital blad I suppose, but that will never happen.

so an M9 then?

That'd probably be close enough aye.
Pity I'll never be able to afford one.
Even when we are onto the M76, the old ones will still have a stupid price tag because of the bleeding Leica badge!

Edit: Was just drooling over the Leica site and noticed the M9 comes with a free licence for whatever the most recent edition of Adobe Lightroom is. Not a bad idea and goes a little way ( a very little way) to justifying the price.
