DSLR with/without HD MOVIE...

Hi

I was thinking of the Canon 50D...It is a good body and I feel good when I hold it but it can't record HD MOVIE...

The 550D can but I don't feel very good because it is made of plastic and it is just 3.7 fps.

The D90 has the HD Movie but...could not auto focus when recording...

So it is really difficult to choose...the EOS 7D and 5D MARK II can do anything but...just too expensive...If I bought a 7D, maybe the only lens I can got is a second or third hand 17-55 kit lens...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!:)

do you want hd video?

if you won't use it ignore it as a feature, also consider the relative costs of buying a 50d + decent video camera vs a video capable body

Not sure any DSLR can focus whilst recording video. Manual focus only.

To make decent HD video though you reall need quite a bit of kit starting with an external mike and something to hold the camera steady! I wouldn't let it sway your decision. If you want HD video - buy a camcorder.

it seems that in High ISO, the 550D is better than 50D?

The 550D is two generations on from the 50D. Since electronics technology is developing so fast this doesn't suprise me at all.

According to that ever unreliable source of information the rumour mill, Canon is about to announce the 60D. This will probably have the edge on the 550D and redress the balance.

The problem may be the the new 60D will come to us at october and I just couldn't wait that too long...

Do you really need the HD resolution at 25FPS standard and such? It's mostly useful to film students and even then 550D is hardly a pickup and go video camera. To get the results that you see on video sites, there is a lot of prep work involved, separate microphones, planning scenes, changing lenses etc.
