dusty sensor

Rocket blower yes

Air duster NO dont do it it will wreak havoc.

Do a little searching for sensor cleaning on TP.

Just remember that the sensor is incredibly fragile and easy to scratch.

yeah i know how delicate the sensor is that's why i'm asking for advice. i've never had to clean one before so i'm unsure if how to tackle it.

cheers for the advice dude ;)

I don't like the idea of a blower anyway near the mirror/sensor filter. All it does is blast dust from where it is to somewhere else.

OK on a lens.

I clean my own sensor. It depends on what is on the sensor as to how to clean it. What I would strongly recommend is getting a sensor loupe, this allows you to see clearly what is causing the dust spot. If its just light dust I use Visible Dust Artic butterfly which generates a negative charge to attract the dust. If this won't work then I use a swab with approved cleaning fluid.

Having read several posts here and elsewhere about dirt on sensors there seems to be a myth that only by taking a camera to a specialist can it be cleaned. Totally untrue in my opinion. As long as research is done on how to clean a sensor, of which there are plenty of demos on youtube, it is quite easy and saves all that taking/sendaway/waiting time.

AS long as preperation is done first by getting the correct cleaning kit and have a clean environment such as a kitchen which generally is more dust free, then I would say have a go.

If I start to notice dust I detach the lens, in the menu select lock mirror up for cleaning but dont lock it up yet, using a rocket blower blow for a while, then repeat with the mirror locked up and once more when the mirror comes back down. 80% of the time this is enough to do the job, other wise I will use a swap set. Its nervous stuff but practice makes perfect, just swat up on it through the variety of youtube videos on it :)

+1 for the rocket blower. Would not trust myself brushing the sensor!
Or have it professionally done if it is too dirty to blow off.

With an Arctic Butterfly you are not really brushing the filter. First you spin it using it's inbuilt motor and build up an electrostatic charge then you run it over the filter barely touching the tips of the hairs on the filter. Thus the dust is attracted to the brush.

It's actually safer than a blower.

there is a misconception of cleaning your sensor
most cameras have a plastic filter over the sensor forgot what it actually called

do it yourself get some wet swabs as discribed there loads of tutorials on here or even youtube it
It not that hard
I did it on my 40d now I do it on my 5d mkII so do not be to frightend
it easy i was sh**ing myself the very first time I did it..
