earphones at Argos

I'd spend the money on something else and save up for decent noise isolating in-ear buds from Shure or Sennheiser.

The important thing is for the bud to completely seal the ear canal. It makes a massive difference to the tones and bass. Earphones that just rest in the ear are generally awful. Not everyone gets on with earphones that fit inside the ear canal though.

I've got some Shure e2c earphones that I've had for years and they're fantastic. Best with the replaceable foam buds though. They're discontinued but the SE series (e.g. SE110) are similar I think.

Noise isolating buds also have the advantage of cutting off external noise to an extent (great for use on planes, trains, etc), and don't leak noise so don't **** people off in the office, train, etc (I hate people with bloody crap iPod buds near me).

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll save for a better pair then, or have a go with the sony ones. Just wanted some with a mic really..

Don't know about stuff with a mic in. I've got the one that came with my Nokia which is fine enough for voice, but I don't bother using it for music and just use my Shures. Not that I listen to music on my phone. Guess it's all a bit different with iPhones :).

With a phone, you could also consider a stereo bluetooth headset. No wires then. More expensive though and don't know how they are for music quality.
