Well dear reader, here I am.

Inspired by the images taken by the aforementioned EG and his band of merry men, (well they were merry when I met them! I think the whisky had something to do with it) I thought I might venture forth to Skye. I have a few days off and a Bongo (camper if you have not seen one yet) on the drive so off I went on Sunday at teatime. First stop Loch Lomond.

That's where it started to get dull and grey. Now I've arrived on Skye it's absolutely hammering it down and you can't even see the mainland. Elgol and the Cuillins are completely hidden in mist! 24 hours it's taken me to get here you son of a camel herder and I can hardly see out the windscreen!

Oh well, there are compensations I suppose. Some nice wine, some lovely cheese and the whole of Sparticus on DVD to watch.

Now, can you all please take a deep breath and blow very hard in a Northerly direction and blow this weather away so I can get out and take some pics! :D

Sottish landscape look stunning in the bad weather, don your waterproofs and get out of the camper..............

I thought you were made of sterner stuff, Ali. Go on get out there! (says she sat on the veranda with her laptop on a balmy summer evening in the south west of France)

I don't mind the wet Ade, I did pack waterproofs but you do need to be able to SEE the ruddy landscape to shoot it!

Thanks, why not really rub it in...........

That is SO not helping Tara!

Being Scottish I was 25 before I realised that rain actually FELL from the sky and was not propelled horizontally at you but I can hardly see a thing!

macro lens - splash shots of rain in puddles...

no.?

ok then it's Scotch on ice, and Spartacus...:D

I know how you feel ali... I was up in the peak district last week. I'd planned some lovely shots, however the rain hit home every time I got the camera out- and being a student on a small budget I don't have waterproofs for my camera, and my towel was already soaken through due to the tent springing leaks! One campsite we stopped at had some beautiful surrounding scenery, shame a massive (and i mean massive) thunderstorm hit home. Didn't give up til 20 minutes after a left the blasted campsite!!

I'm feeling your pain alison!

Forecast for tomorrow....... heavy rain! Grrrr that's not what the 5 day forecast said!

But Wednesday....white cloud so I might just manage to get into the hills that day. I need to leave Thursday to get home on Friday. Coastal stuff tomorrow then and hills on Thursday.

I really feel for you Toby, at least I am warm and dry in the van, not like some of the hikers and cyclists I've seen today, it could be a lot worse, I know!

Now where is that corkscrew! ;)

Funnily enough I was passing through Stockport today and I think I actually got a little bit sunburnt in the van, it's been really pleasant all day. But erm.. yeah.. enjoy your time in Scotland. :D

Nothing better than a duvet on the couch, something half decent on TV and one hell of a storm outside of the window though!

Aw :( that's not fun.

Was lovely at Loch Lomond on Friday

lol I parked there last night Tom and you could not see the end of the loch this morning. I was cleaning my teeth in that very location at 7am! ;)

Exactly! I was hiking too... and you mention the corkscrew there, I'm under 18 so can't buy it yet!! I had to settle with lukewarm cokes that had been sat in my 45litre/2 and a half stone weighing bag!

Hope the weather improves for you!

I'm tempted by one of them, as you can get them in 4wd (which I need) and they are rather less agricultural than my 1987 caravelle with the horrid engine derived from the one from the Beetle. Plus "Bongo Frendee" is an excellent name for a vehicle.

"porn for girls, with all those half naked gladiators." according to my (female) Italian friend :naughty:.

Hope the weather clears up for you.

Awww nooooo Ali! I shall fart blow my hardest to try and get rid of the nasty weather for you!

Don't expect a reply from EG anytime soon, I think is OH may currently have him in a headlock whilst instructing a midwife to pull on his balls with a particularly rusty pair of pliers...

Near to creating a mini EG in other words...

Somewhat Biblical deluge here in Germany as well if that's any consolation - did manage to get out on saturday for a sun-shiney drive though...

oh and it'll help put the fires out in Russia as well....apparently...

Ahhhh ha! Three days with no bloomin t'interweb connection, that's the back ar** of beyond for you!

Thank you all those who blew in a northerly direction, it worked! Now I have sunburn and midge bites! Alas I am still without the magical sunset over the Cuillins and only just about managed to heave myself out of bed for sunrise at the Quirang!

The bongo has seen sterling service and is now thoroughly minging. My walking boots are inhuman and are now banished from the interior of the Bongo and my washing will take some explaining when I return home thanks to plunging hip deep in a bog this morning. Strangely enough as I plummeted into said bog my left hand (clutching a D700 and 70-200mm) made an equal movement in the opposite direction depositing said camera safely on a tuft of heather. I wonder how that happened?

So I am safely ensconced in Glencoe (which appears habitable after Skye!) and have managed a hose down in the shower block. I am afraid that if I return home in anything other than a fragrant condition, such expeditions may be forfeit in the future.

Now, how to smuggle the laundry home..... ;)

It's not called the Misty Isle for nothing you know! (quote from the tourist information place on Skye after I threatened to beat them to death with a Manfrotto if they did not perform a "good weather for photography" dance!

Alas no spectacular sunsets or much above an insipid sunrise but much fun has been had, many sights have been seen and there is a midge crawling up my screen......splattered all over my screen.

Home tomorrow Glencoe/Loch Lomond/Borders/Home in time for tea :)

Followed by much laundry and van cleaning ;)

I'm Spartacus!

Back home to the land if internet access and washing machines. The offending laundry is already in the machine and I can fettle the bongo tomorrow. Had a cracking run over to Applecross yesterday but the weather once back at sea level was not particularly wonderful so headed back to Glen Coe. It's a bit tasty when you are standing in the rain just because you are actually in a cloud! The weather was atrocious coming back south today so I'll get soem piccies done over the weekend to share my utterly abysmal landscapes with you. (which I am particularly pants at, you have been warned!)

Ah Alison Alison, don't you know that Scotland's scenery is only realy seen at its best when obscured by driving rain, through eyeballs bitten to buggery by midges.

How were the the midges by the way? I would have asked you to give them my regards had I known before that you were headed their way.

I woke up at 5am scratching. Does that answer the midge question ;)

Bad luck on the continuing yuk weather Ali, We've got sodding midges and mozzies too, bloody things :bang:
If it's any consolation the weather here turned not so nice over the last couple of day, though some might like it, 38-42 c in the days, in the 20s at night and very sticky with it :shake:
