Always been very disappointed with this lens wide open, starts to improve round F2 and looks sharp at F4, just by chance I came across the receipt and it still had 2 weeks of warranty left so I thought ill return it and see what LCE say, anyway they sent it of to Lehmans one week later it come back having had the barrel unit replaced and re-calibrated with a clean, check, and test, and by jove its a different lens, razor sharp in the low numbers! Just goes to show what slips through the QC net! Just a thought for you guys with soft focus issues, maybe it dosnt have to be that way! Cant wait to use it in vengeance now (although I had given up on it and brought a replacement) so if I do sell it later snap it up, its sharp!
 
Hi Mick, No I scrapped them (the soft ones) its a shame (ive just checked my bin) as its a drastic difference, so much so I never sold it due to the fear of it coming back with a disappointed purchaser to deal with, I had read reviews and thought that's just they way it is! I brought a 85mm to replace it, is it a luxury to keep both lol! as im raising funds for a 5D mk2 at the mo, ooo decisions decisions.
Chris if the lens is good its awesome but mine was very below average till today (1.4-2.8) Im also new and wonder what lies behind those shaded out panel lol!
