EF and EF-S Lens, how to tell

Hi all,

I am thinking about upgrading my camera in the near future but am not sure which of my lenses are EF and which are EF-S?

I know some cameras will only work with 1 type and not the other so am wondering how i can tell with my lenses as i dont want to buy a new camera and have to replace my lenses.

I am tempted by the 5d mk2 but will most likely go with the more generic camera of either the 40d or 50d as i am concerned i wont be able to use the majority of the lenses i alreay have.

Can anyone explain how to check which are which please?
 
Firstly, if you go with the 40d or 50d they take EF-S lens, so no worried there.

Have a look on the barrel of your lens, the end that you attach to the camera. There are line up dots - Red ones only and it an EF lens, white and it's an EF-S.
 
From your signature the only one that won't work with the 5D MkII is the kit lens :)
 
Cool, have just checked and everything is good if i decide the 5dmk2 route :)

The Sigma lenses are annoying though as its a red dot on the barrel, but the dot to show its location on the side is white. But i am happy, now i just have to decide which i want.

With the lenses you have, th best i think you should be looking at is a 40d
If you go for a 5dmkII, you really should be looking at having better glass then you have at present

EDIT* Oh, and your 18-55 WONT work on a 5DmkII
 
agree with MJ Stebbings, i would get a 40D and some decent glass over a 5DII body.
