I've had my own domain for about 10 years.. and everything has been fine.. till now.

I got an email from a company and when I replied to their mail, almost immediately I got a reply back with the following message;

"This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

XXXXXX@XXXXXgroup.com
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<XXXXXX@XXXXXgroup.com>:
host mail1.XXXXXgroup.com [195.229.61.3]: 550 5.7.1 Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list"

The only change I've made that I changed the company that is hosting my website and handling my email. But then, that change was over 4 months ago. I'm wondering if that is the reason for this issue.

Any help would be appreciated. :thumbs:

We had a similar problem at work when our mailserver moved to another server.
Phone up your contact person mail- and websitewise. He might be able to get you off the block list and make your email available again.

Good luck

Sometimes this happens if your or their DNS isn't configured properly. I had a similar issue with a hosting service. Emails to one particular domain always got sent back if sent from a particular domain. That could be the cause. Sometimes when this happens and their server thinks that your DNS isn't configured properly it automatically adds the IP to a blacklist. I may be wrong though.

Cheers for the replies.. i think an email is in order :)

The IP blocked refers to the IP the email originated from which probably has nothing to do with your domain. How were you connected to the net when you sent the email? DSL, work, etc? It's that IP that was blocked, quite common for DSL where the IP might have been used for sending spam, part of a botnet, etc. PM me the full headers and I'll take a closer look and see if I can say what list it's on and what steps you can take to get it removed.

I had a search this evening through my Domain Hosting companies FAQ's.. and found this;

SMTP/Sending mail issues with certain ISPs

Some ISPs block port 25 for the sending of email via SMTP. AOL and Orange are known to be amongst such ISPs, though there are also others. If this happens, setting SMTP to port 587 instead of port 25 will allow you to send email through us.

I did this in Outlook and tried a test message to the same email address I had problems with.. so far, nothing has come back to me. :)

PXL8: I was at home when I sent the email message, and ...and it was sent through my broadband which happens to be BTInternet. If the error occurs then I'll be sure to be in touch :) Many thanks.

The blocking of SMTP means the ISP will stop you running your own mail server or using any but their own server as part of spam prevention. The error you got wasn't this as the mail was sent and then returned.

Unless your ISP is especially slow or flakey with delivering mail it's best just to use their server rather than one that might have been set up by your hosting company.

Contact damac and ask them what blacklist they use - or use http://www.dnsbl.info/ or similar on the ip address that initiated your email to them and the servers it went through - should be on the bounced headers
