Error 99 Canon EOS 1000d Fault

My wife has the Canon EOS 1000d and can not view LCD screen to change settings, at switch on it keeps showing Error 99 she has cleaned terminals changed battery and SD card and tried various other lens's but still nothing has anyone els had the same fault and how was it resolved ?

You have tried various lenses, which would suggest the Camera is at fault, rather than a lens - you've cleaned the contacts already - on the camera body as well as the lens ?

Have you removed the small cell battery for a period of time - did that make any difference ?

Have you checked one of the lenses on your body ?

Andys link didn't work when I clicked it so it may not work for others either. However I was just going to post the same link anyway so with all respect to you Andy I have posted it again.
For you john the problem is that the 99 code just tells you something's wrong but not what.
If you decide to go down the repair route get in touch with A.J.Johnstones in Glasgow and they can give you a free estimate for repair and it will just cost you postage, cold be worth a try and still cheaper than buying a new camera.

Addendum: I just ploughed my way through Eddies link at lens rentals. What an interesting read, good find and more helpful than Canons effort. :thumbs:

I suffer from a regular Error 99 with my 550d and a P.O.S Tamron 70-300mm lens. In my case its the lens thats to blame, but as you are getting it with several lenses it's probably the camera. Error 99 seems to be a generic 'somethings broke' error message.

Thanks Danny, the camera is on its way to A. J. Johnstons as I type so hopefully I will know soon the outcome ( and the cost ) if it can be repaired.

Error 99 now know through A.J. Johnston in Glasgow this error 99 was a new shutter required total for repair £118 Aaaaargh!!! still needs must eh!!

That should include your return postage as well. The good thing is that they automatically service your camera while they have it in bits and will clean sensor etc etc. try to think of it as a car service.
Must admit AJ Johnstone are very quick with there estimates, great service.

Thanks again Gary for the advice, the £118 WAS WITHOUT Vat and the Camera will be picked up after repair, however its good to know it will have had a service as well, just wish it was back done and dusted.
