EXIF question

[chris954]

Just wondering if the exif data contains the serial number of the camera that took the picture.reason being i was watching something on telly tonight about a girl who had been kidnapped and the kidnapper was filming her with a camcorder.Got me wondering if the exif data did contain the serial number of the camcorder then surely the shop it was purchased from could be traced in this big brother world we live in and probably the person who bought it.not that im planning to kidnap anybody its just that my mind tends to wander sometimes.

No serial number in Canon exif but ISTR it does get imprinted in Nikon.

Moral of the story, bad boys use Canon gear

The serial number of my 50D is included in the exif data It's 'camera body number' in Zoom Browser!

EDIT: ... Sorry, didn't realise it was about video

Next time I kidnap someone, I must remember to use My Canon. My Pentax does record a serial number, but it is that of the PCB or some such, not the one on the camera. Still traceable I bet.
