Hiya

I've got a 30D and I'm trying (without any luck) to reduce the flash exposure compensation on a 420EX, as it's blowing everything out in my tiny home studio. I've got the flash off camera, and it's triggered by a pc cable. I've got a horrible feeling that the compensation doesn't work on the 420.

Unfortunately I haven't got another flash unit or any wireless kit.

Anyone got any ideas?

Once you take the unit off the hotshoe you're only going to get a full power fire from it.

Try some kitchen/loo roll over the top of it to calm the light a bit. Just keep adding more layers until you get the result you want. It will also soften it quite a bit, which hopefully won't ruin the shot you're doing.

Ah - I thought that might be the case. I'll give your suggestion a whirl though, and try some faster shutter speeds / smaller apertures to see if I can tone it down a wee bit.

That's a new 580 and a pocket wizard on the shopping list :)
