I have just got one of the those oneclick power blocks - website here

http://www.oneclickpower.com/store/

The question that I ask is that are external hard drives safe to connect to one of these? Has anybody had any experience with using oneclick power strip/block with an external hard drive?

Its that I dont want to connect this up just incase it messng up my hard drive and I loose all my backups?

It's not likely to mess up your hard drive or the data on it as long as you are careful to make sure the drive has finished writing any info before you cut the power. That's not likely to be a major problem unless your machine is constantly writing to the drive.

it depends how they work to be honest..

The IntelliPlug™ and the IntelliPanel™ have been designed to make life easier, they automatically switch your equipment off when it is no longer in use. No more standby – no more wasted power.

i think there may be potential for cutting the power to drives before they have spun down completely to be honest.

Thats what I thought, when the computer switches off, the hard drive does stuff before spinning down and the power plug only gives 5 seconds after the computer has switched off to turn off other things, not sure if this is long enough.
