Eye-fi file transfer: merits or gimmicks?

Yes
I've recently added a Canon 5DIII to the fleet and UI see it comes with enable-able eye-fi for electronic file transfer so before I invest in a gimmick that might be a complete waste of time and money I'm asking you guys.
Is it an easy set-up?
Is it a no-brainer gotta do it feature?

Historically I've been demounting CF cards stuffing them into a card reader but the last batch of photos I downloaded through a hard wire connection 'twixt laptop and camera.

All comments, advice, suggestions and opinions welcomed please.

Thank you in advance.

Tried it once on another camera and while slow it worked. Also spent a lot of money years back for a wireless Nikon system which was a total PITA and had a range of about 100 foot. The 5d3 has fairly large files sizes in raw, I suspect an sd reader will be quicker (the 5d3 has dual card slots. CF and SD.

I had an eye-fi SD card many years ago, but it was slow.
I think it is still in one of my old HP handheld organisers.

Was much easier to take the card out,

Just to add to the negative mood. The company closed in 2016 and I don’t think that there is any software that works with modern OS. To be honest, I could never get them working properly about 8 years ago and the final software release broke everything.
