Eye-Fi Images to iPad

I have picked up the following information from another website on setting up an Eye-Fi card -
You need to install the Eye-Fi Center software on your computer. It is stored on the card when you get it or you can download it from http://www.eye.fi
Run the Eye-fi center and set up the card for direct mode. You can see how to do that here: http://uk.eye.fi/how-it-works/features/direct-mode
Put the card in your camera.
Install Eye-Fi app on you iPad.
Turn your camera on and connect your iPad to the WiFi network created by the Eye-Fi card.
Start shooting photos. They should transfer to the iPad when you run the Eye-Fi app on the iPad.

My question is ......Does the camera have to have 2 card slots - will it work on a Nikon D700 which only has one slot.
I presume the eye fi card will not store the images as well but just acts as a 'transmitter' to the iPad
Once on the iPad can you then transfer images from the iPad onto a computer.

Hmm!! - it looks as if the eye-fi card is only SDHC format and not compact flash....pity
 
Have a look at Eye-Fi's support forum. They will not support use of CF adapters but they do acknowledge that certain cameras that use CF cards - providing they are compatible with UMDA format - will work using certain SD-CF adapters.

I can't speak for any Nikon gear as I have real cameras from Canon :-) but I can tell you that the DeLock 61796 SD-CF adapter is highly regarded and proven to work. It works with my EOS 5D mkII and 7D bodies but does not work on any of the xxD bodies (unless they have an SD slot obviously)

The set-up can be a bit slow but has never failed me yet. You can choose to have it transmit the files to your wi-fi device but still retain them on the card or you can have an "endless card" by having it transmit then delete.

Personally, I find the safest and quickest option is to shoot in raw and small Jpeg simultaneously and have the card transmit the jpeg only to my iPad2 (I can see no reason why it wouldn't work with iPad 1)
