Hello TP,

I always see the terms "you haven't made the eyes pop" or "you didn't get the focusing right on the eyes"

how do you pinpoint your focusing right into the eyes, maybe im being silly here ? :(

One way is to set your camera onto a single focus point (you decide which is best) and make sure that you position that point on their eyes... That way, even if your depth of field is tiny and nothing else is in focus, at least their eyes are.

Eyes popping is usually a reference to post processing to exaggerate the colours or something, naturally you need to hit the focus on the eyes first...

I usually digitally zoom in on the camera into the eyes and then refocus and click. Is this method any good?

When I got my 50mm f/1.8 I changed over to using only my centre focusing spot as auto-spot just wasn't accurate enough (it usually chooses the thing closest to the camera, more often than not the end of the nose, making the eyes out of focus) and I've never looked back. Now shooting with a 17-55mm f/2.8 and it still comes in handy. It means I have to do a lot more waving around to focus and recompose but it means I get more reliable focus.
