Yes
I was experimenting with fast shutter speeds today just messing with some water and bouncing a ball to see what sort of high speed shots I could get but images often appeared dark for obvious reason.

So decided to stick flash gun and could go no higher than 1/200 how do I achieve higher shutter speeds using flash? Would I need to use studio flash or just manual lighting to ensure the room is bright enough?

Use a dedicated flash for your camera with "HSS" or "FP" mode, and set the camera and/or flash to use this mode.

Or go the other way and use sound/motion triggers to operate the flash with the camera in a dark room and the shutter held open ('B' setting).

If it's the HVL-F42AM in your sig, then according to here it does do HSS, and I can see the button on the unit.

Whats "HSS" though

Ahh High-Speed Sync but how do you use it then lol

Read the fine manual?

HSS flash gives a series of short flashes. The output/range will be reduced, but should be indicated on the flash unit, and can be used for fill flash portraits in daylight.

As DrRusty points out, there are other ways to skin the cat, depending on what you want to achieve and the equipment available.

a nice way to do high speed shots are to shoot in the dark.

use the shortest flash 1/32 or 1/64 if it has it, with the fastest your camera will sync with the flash.

Works fantastic for freeze frame pics!

The best time to use HSS is when there is a lot of light that a shutter speed faster than the default sync is required, yet some fill for shadows is required.
