Just went out and shelled best part of £40 on the game. Struggling with the tactical defending thing. What do you people think of this new defending system? Other than that I think its just same as last year with polished up visuals.
 
I'm loving it. I wasn't entirely convinced by the demo but there seems to be small tweaks in the game now that makes it far more enjoyable and rewarding to play. Defending is definitely harder and requires more thought and it feels a lot more satisfying to break down someone else's defence and score.

I think im coming round a bit to the way you have to time the tackles now, getting better with everygame, I do feel its more engaging then it was before ie, O X just wait for the player to make the tackle. But now you have to think about when to tackle, so you dont concede a foul.
 
Loving it so far, like the idea of online league table and working your up. In terms of defending, I totally agree so much more thought now instead of running in, it's all about positioning and being aware where the other team could attack, much more enjoyable. But my favorite bit is attacking now, much smoother taking people on and attacking the defense.

Just sold my FIFA 11 for £7.50 on eBay....
 
i was pulling my hair out with it on the defending element, but then i went into the controller set up and you can change the defending to 'legacy' (ie. the old style). Brill.. just hammered City in the Charity Shield. Onwards and upwards...!

if anyone wants to add me, i'm leftcurl on psn too!

does anyone know how to download the FIFA 12 update onto a pc? For some reason my ps3 keeps getting an error when trying to do it and it's really driving me nuts!

without the update it won't let you sign in to psn and therefore can't play online. i've searched google but it seems quite a few people are getting the error but so far no fix??!?!?
 
I play with the old defending style too, best of both worlds. Dribbling is harder than the old one I think but long shots much better. Overall a good update but not that major (unless perhaps you want to use the new defending)
 
I bought it for my ipad last night and had a play, its better than i thought a footy game would be on the ipad
 
Also struggling with the new defense system, but I'll get used to it. I'm aware you can put it into 'Legacy' mode, but I've heard from one of the Fifa nuts at work that playing online you can only use the new set-up... Can anyone confirm this?
 
What is it with FIFA and them not being able to pronounce dirk kuyts name? I have never had a version where they have done it right. It's pronounced "cowt" not "kite" like in FIFA 11 and not "kweech" like in FIFA 12. How hard can it be to clarify his bloody name?

I'd be interested to know if you can only use the new defending online - i'll have to get used to the new system if so..
 
@rse biscuits! Well, looks like I just need to man up and get on with it :p I've been playing Ultimate Team and being horribly useless against real life opponents :(
 
New defending system is far more engaging, although it can be frustrating when playing 'be a pro' single player as the CPU defenders just don't want to tackle.

Other than that i think there are small improvements throughout the whole game, leading to a better football feel. I have even signed up for online play on this one which i have never done before.

I like the fact there are two commentary teams too, this adds a bit of variety to the game.

How many years has FIFA been going now? Personally i think they have now overtaken the Pro Evo franchise for game play.
 
i remember buying Fifa soccer for my sega megadrive with Mark Hughes playing up front for Man Utd, but i'm not sure what year that was!?!

Sorted my FIFA 12 update now, so i've played online a couple of times.. 1 win, 1 loss! Isn't it annoying when you get beat by someone who had 35% of possession!!

Agreed.

I have always brought the Pro evo, since it was called ISS on PS1. Brought the games every year. It used to be miles ahead in terms of gameplay. But since Fifa 10, I have converted, and being a long pro evo fan, have to admit Fifa poops on it.
My brother however still prefers pro evo, so he will go out and buy it on release day. He's just having a hard time admitting its No. 2 :D
 
Have to admit I've been playing Fifa since Fifa 96 on mega drive, and whilst pro evo took over when i got ISS64 and playstation versions, Fifa did indeed take the spot when it moved on to the current crop of consoles.

I'm still debating if I like 12 more than 11 though. I think I'm warming to it more and certainly enjoying it as much as ever.
 
Give it 2-3 months, when we've really had a chance to get accustommed to it, I reckon it will be best ever.
 
i switched to legacy defending, but i've played a few online games now where it's tactical defending only and getting used to it a bit more - so i'm going to switch to tactical offline as well.

i've also been trying to set myself up for some bicycle kicks and high volleys... press L2 and shoot for a spectacular shot. Also press R1 and pass for a 'fancy' pass. They don't always come off though :bonk:

I am finding it to be very well balanced this time round, difficulty has improved I would easy win on Legendary but now now it seems a lot tougher, also skills seem a little harder to always pull off, before I could quite easily with the right player back heal over, 360 spin etc... but not in 12.

I don't get the online gaming thing with VirginGaming.com. I have played several games online yet my player hub is showing me as played zero matches.

Anyone know what i am doing wrong?
 
Fifa 97, Fifa 98. Then no football game until Pro Evo 2003, 04, 05, 06, 07.
Then Pro Evo 08 AND Fifa 08...

Fifa 9, Fifa 10, Fifa 11, Fifa 12. Pro Evo is so rubbish in comparison.

The new defending is a lot better. If you go back to Fifa 11 now, you wonder how you ever did without it. The game is so much better balanced. I'm pretty rubbish at Fifa, but I'm okay at defending so I can still put up a good fight.
 
Going to have to give this new defending a go I think. Fifa was crap compared to Pro Evo up to Fifa 10.. now it's much better.

I like the new defending. I don't understand people complaining about tactical defending; if you don't like it, stick to Fifa 11, it's about the only change :lol:

It's a bit easy to score from outside the box, the commentators still aren't consistant, and the menu's aren't much quicker.

Other than that, I like it. :D
