FireFox 7

Just a 'heads up', Firefox 7 is released today, supposedly uses a lot less memory.

Updated my machine at work earlier. Nothing broke so I going to update my home laptop later this evening.

I don't understand the number change though. I doesn't feel like a major release. I thought a point release would have been more appropriate.

my mac is feeling a bit speedier since FF7 went on last night.

Still too early to say if it's just that though at the mo as I forced the maintenance scripts to run before I updated

They're not meant to be major releases. Forget about release numbers for Firefox - they're not particularly important anymore.

Still doesn't like Youtube though, crashed a few times this afternoon with it.

I still prefer IE8 but this site hangs for a few secs. with it, so FF it has to be!

I'm currently running the firefox 10 alpha, and to be honest there's been very little change in apparent functionality since FF 5, although it's now far better at memory management.

As someguy201 says above, the version numbers are meaningless these days in terms of how we traditionally expect changes with major version numbers.

Simple preference. I prefer the UI.

Well there are some good reasons. My GF's webmail system at work will not function with anything more than FF3.6. You could argue that this is bad IT, and you'd be right, but you are dealing with the inertia of a large university in terms of getting core systems upgraded.
