I seem to be having an intermittent issue with Firefox. For no apparent reason, it suddenly can't connect to random websites. Sometimes TP, sometimes Sky Sports, sometimes both and many other sites as well. I can resolve it by closing and reopening FF but was wondering why it was happening and if there was anything I could do to rectify it.

Have a look at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can

Thanks Mike. Have to be honest though, I don't really understand half of it. I know it's not internet security or antivirus that's the issue as I don't have any but I didn't use to have the problem and no settings have changed.

That might be the problem, you may have a rogue peice of adware/malware/virus/trojan etc messing up your browser. Its probably a good place to start.
Do you not have any internet security or antivirus software at all ?

What exactly happens when it wont connect to these random sites. Any text on screen or in the browser window for example?

I have a mac, never had any need for antivirus.

The message I get is as if I have no internet connection.

just to rule out a connection issue does safari work okay?

Well Safari work as good as it ever does, wouldn't call it OK though.

Macs can get viruses - just not so common.....
